[Plana Cosplay] Stepping into the Summer Seaside of Blue Archive - Image 2

Going to the Zhoushan seaside to shoot this set of photos was a plan decided long ago. This costume features quite a few material contrasts; the smoothness of the black sailor collar and white stockings, combined with the blue and white gym uniform cut, heavily tests the photographer's control over exposure under harsh outdoor light. The blue and red floating halos above our heads are special effects added in post-processing; during the early preparation work, to fix the shooting angle properly and leave enough space for the effects, we spent nearly an hour just finding the location for this swing.

The sunlight that day was exceptionally fierce, and the sea surface in Zhoushan at ten in the morning reflected light strongly. The biggest fear when shooting white stockings outdoors is overexposure turning into a dead white patch; the camera parameters were repeatedly adjusted on-site, utilizing the shadow of the swing as a fill-light surface for the main light source to preserve the highlight textures on the over-the-knee socks, as well as that natural skin-indentation look and fabric-tension refraction details when the black leg loop tightly clasped the thigh. The watermelon held in my partner's hand was an energizing prop; the real sense of moisture merged with the summer vibe can break the stiffness of dry posing. That thick hemp rope swing was also a highly textured element; the rough knot textures formed a visual contrast with the smooth skin and flat costume fabric.

Touch-ups were highly frequent throughout the process because the sea breeze carried fine sand particles, making it very easy for hair and wigs to knot. Although the blue short wig and silver-white long wig looked beautiful outdoors, they would be blown by the wind from time to time to block our line of sight. To keep that relaxed and cozy state in the frame all the time, we had to stop and recomb the bangs after every single shot, checking if the bangs blocked the eyes or the extended position of the halo. That swing was actually quite narrow; two people sitting side-by-side needed to maintain body balance while letting both legs stretch and hang down naturally to elongate leg lines, which actually required quite a lot of core strength.

Choosing such high-saturation blue sky and azure sea as the background meant that the post-processing color palette didn't need many additions, focusing more on restoring the true state of natural light. The daytime sunlight cast sharp and clear shadows on the white tile ground; this crisp terminator line happened to match that clean and translucent feel unique to 2D photos in our Anime-style photography work. In the second half of the shoot, the sun rose higher and shone almost directly onto the swing, so we pulled the lens back a bit, incorporating that black long-handled umbrella into the frame edge along the way, which can increase some density variations in the composition, letting the waves and reefs on the distant sea surface serve as the drop point for the background.

Despite wearing this costume and shooting under high temperatures for a whole morning, with sweat constantly running down our foreheads and backs, seeing that completely unlocked state of poses in the final photos, along with the moments when the wind brushed across the skirt hems and hair tips, made us feel this trip running to the seaside under the blazing sun was highly worth it. Not every outdoor shoot can catch perfect cloud cover for shade; this completely sun-exposed environment instead amplified the character's sense of transparency and vitality by the sea, making the atmospheric vibe quite right on point under this Zhoushan travel photography.
