Ever since planning this Genshin Impact Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay, I have been thinking about how to showcase her calm, wise, and gentle temperament within an underwater theme. For this outfit coordination, I specially chose white pantyhose and platform geta to emphasize clean body lines within the overall silhouette.
In costume preparation, the water-ripple printed fabric was custom-tailored to fit the shoulders. Combined with the choker featuring the Hydro gem, it reflects light beautifully from all angles, especially under top lighting. The ruffled sleeves were made of semi-transparent white sheer fabric for a light, airy touch. The material for the white pantyhose was crucial: the sheen could not be too reflective to prevent overexposure, aiming instead for a visually water-soaked texture. The wave patterns and blue ribbons on the platform geta served as finishing touches, elongating the calves when viewed from the right angles.
For hair and makeup, trimming the pink-to-white gradient wig took considerable effort, and the bangs alongside the twin ear-like shapes required careful positioning. I selected grayish-blue contact lenses, paired with soft pink eyeshadow and cool-toned blush, hoping to evoke her gentle presence alongside an oceanic coolness. The base makeup was kept translucent, finished with a hydrating mist to mimic delicate water droplets.
The shoot took place in a black studio, emphasizing the reflective texture of the floor. The ground was covered with white daisies and light blue flowers, framed by sheer drapery and plaster columns in the backdrop. The core props included transparent jellyfish suspended mid-air and scattered pearl shells. Since there were many props in the water element scene, composition required keeping the subject from drifting too far to the edges. I chose a poised seated pose with one leg extended and my torso slightly turned, naturally accentuating body contours while extending my right hand toward the floating jellyfish to guide the viewer's eye.
We experimented with different angles during the shoot; for example, a low camera angle highlighted the white pantyhose and leg lines well. In a studio setup, lighting control was paramount: a softbox for close-ups created smooth skin textures, while side rim lighting sculpted the texture of the white pantyhose and the layered outfit. Post-processing focused mainly on color grading to make the blue palette clear and translucent while rendering water reflections naturally.
The process behind this Genshin Impact Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay shoot was intricate and lengthy, yet it deepened my connection to her noble solitude and sense of guardianship in the deep sea. Adjusting the hemline or fine-tuning the height of the jellyfish props were all done to bring the final imagery closer to the original concept. I hope these visuals convey the serene atmosphere of the deep sea directly to you.
