Today, specifically to celebrate Anon Chihaya's birthday, I shot this nautical-themed cosplay. Pink twin tails matched with a blue-and-white sailor suit, alongside a sailor hat adorned with a blue bow, really maximize the character's energetic charm. To fit the nautical theme, we deliberately set up a scene by an indoor pool; the reflections on the water surface combined with warm-toned lighting gave it a genuine summer sunlight feel. Props included a pink-and-white striped swimming ring, paper windmills, and even a beach ball and watermelon, making the details quite thorough.
During the shoot, having to interact with the pool while keeping facial expressions in check was quite a physical test. However, to present the best possible result, it was all totally worth it. Plus, with the twin-tail styling, whenever making large movements, extra care had to be taken with the wig to prevent tangling or slipping off. The mosaic tiles in the water combined with reflectors created a gorgeous light and shadow effect, though it was prone to overexposure, requiring the photographer to constantly adjust angles.
Appearing in front of the lens today is @WantToSleepSoMuch, whose camera presence is truly exceptional—their movements were even more natural than mine, like the single-arm fist-pump pose and the final shot of toe-touching water splashes, which were captured with incredible vibrancy. The character of Chihaya Anon is set to be very lively, and this nautical-style outfit completely aligns with that active, dynamic feel. From selecting props to makeup, the entire preparation process was quite time-consuming, but seeing the final photos made it all feel worthwhile. This sailor suit combined with White over-the-knee socks looks visually very harmonious.
Actually, when preparing this outfit, the most troublesome part was the tailoring and details; the splicing at the collar and cuffs needed to be extremely neat to capture the crispness of a sailor suit. To match the sailor hat styling, the wig's bangs also needed trimming and styling—not too thick, otherwise they would block the eyes and affect expression delivery. The sitting posture by the pool required keeping my core constantly engaged to make the legs look slender, all while making sure my feet didn't actually slip into the water, or the clothes would get soaked. The splash shots were candid captures; since the water splashes rose very quickly, it took several attempts to nail a near-perfect moment.
The pink wig and the blue of the pool created a stark, vibrant contrast, making the image colors exceptionally rich. Today's set was actually shot from many angles, and we selected these five to showcase different states. By this poolside, the sunlight rippling across the water, matched with the pink-and-blue color scheme of the swimming ring and sailor suit, looked wonderfully coordinated. The addition of the over-the-knee socks brought extra layers to the overall styling, and matched with wristbands, it gave the whole look a more sporty feel. This makeup look also purposely incorporated pink-toned blush and glitter eyeshadow to echo the pink hair and tie, hoping to make the character appear even more adorable.
Because the shoot took place on such a special occasion as Anon Chihaya's birthday, the whole team hoped to present the most flawless state possible. We shot continuously from afternoon until dusk; though exhausting, seeing the final results made everyone extremely happy. Chihaya Anon has brought me so much joy, and this nautical theme was meant to showcase her endlessly energetic side, hoping the final photos convey that burst of vitality. I thoroughly enjoyed the shooting process, and everyone put a lot of effort into post-production color grading as well. To maintain the brightness of blue and pink while preserving skin texture, we revised it back and forth several times. The color saturation and contrast of this set were dialed up quite high, specifically to highlight the atmosphere of summer and the pool.
