[Komeiji Koishi cosplay] Touhou Project Style at the May Day anime convention Firefly ACG Expo

I've organized the on-site Convention photos from the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo during the May Day anime convention. This time I cosplayed Komeiji Koishi, a major character I really wanted to try this year. The main difficulty of the outfit lay in the headpiece and the garment layering; supporting that black ruffled hat adorned with orange ribbons and blue flowers took considerable effort. The top was crafted from beige jacquard fabric with subtle patterns and paired with dark green collar trim, looking both classical and dynamic. The skirt had rich layers embellished with 3D blue-and-white flowers and gold stars; while the layered fabric draped distinctly when moving, it also carried substantial weight.

The accompanying props—the glowing blue orb, intertwined blue ribbons, purple cords, and the handheld dagger—created a striking visual presentation. During shooting, we specifically chose railings as the background to make the most of backlighting, creating a soft glow along the edges of the blue wig while blurring the background to make the subject stand out. Because the convention hall was packed, we put careful thought into framing and angles to avoid background clutter. The overall palette created a bold contrast among bright blue, orange, and dark gold, giving the frame visual impact without sacrificing elegance.

For makeup, green colored contact lenses enhanced the character's traits, with red lipstick brightening the look nicely. Holding the props and dagger in an elaborate costume was tiring, but seeing the leg lines and overall posture in these full-body photos made the effort worthwhile. Rather than overly complex poses, I focused on capturing that mysterious, slightly playful aura. Given the complex lighting at the venue, post-processing balanced the contrast to highlight the lace details and the luminous glow of the orb. This convention visit left wonderful memories, and I plan to do an outdoor shoot later for even more atmospheric shots.
