This photoshoot featuring Kiana's early-design Swimsuit cosplay from Honkai Impact 3rd was far more joyful than anticipated.
When I first saw the Lime soda concept art, my immediate reaction was that overwhelming wave of summer freshness. The outfit's design is exceptionally vivid: a bright lime-green hooded capelet paired with a black cropped tee featuring paw-print motifs, topped off with faux-fur trimmed denim shorts, creating a crisp, bold color contrast. To embody early Kiana's energetic, somewhat goofball demeanor, I made intentional adjustments to my expressions and movements on the Seaside beach.
For this session, we specifically chose a Seaside beach setting. The coastal summer heat paired with blazing sunlight posed a serious test for both stamina and styling. For shot one on the boardwalk, the midday sun was blindingly harsh; to avoid squinting and stark shadows, we used a massive blue-and-white swim ring as a visual anchor and prop, angling my body slightly with extended arms to break up rigidity and make my posture more dynamic. Though the blazing sun left me dizzy, the out-of-camera lighting was gorgeously luminous and translucent, perfectly matching the refreshing Lime soda theme.
Moving to shot two around dusk, the light softened considerably. Stepping into the cool shallows, the sea breeze tousled my wig and clothes, but this uncurated messiness felt even truer to the character's carefree spirit. Holding the swim ring and pointing toward the distant horizon, I didn't need complicated facial control—I just had to imagine being that carefree girl playing by the sea. The water's reflections, distant reefs, and boats formed a serene tableau that contrasted starkly with the fiery passion of midday, perfectly documenting two distinct vibes from afternoon to twilight.
As a cosplayer, taking on a role with abundant outdoor elements always requires striking a delicate balance among costume accuracy, natural movement, and environmental lighting. While the fabrics became slightly heavy once wet, wading through the sea actually amplified realistic immersion. Trimming and styling the wig also took substantial effort: maintaining her iconic silhouette while preventing it from devolving into a tangled mess in the ocean breeze.
The entire shoot was pure joy. Early Kiana's personality was the bold, forward-charging type without overthinking or internal turmoil, so in front of the camera, I tried my best to relax, avoiding overly calculated posing and simply soaking in the sea breeze and sunshine.
