[Ruan Mei Cosplay] Serene Moments in Honkai: Star Rail

When taking these Convention photos for Ruan Mei, the weather was just right—a soft, overcast sky without glaring sunlight. Preparing this outfit actually took more thought than expected to faithfully capture that reserved yet warm texture.

The part of the overall styling that required the most time to fine-tune was actually the pair of golden hair ornaments. To simulate that light, floating feel, we had to repeatedly adjust the center of gravity during fastening, otherwise it would easily look bulky. Additionally, the subtle highlights at the ends of the hair created rich layering under the light, deepening the overall cool and serene tone.

Outside the convention hall that day, crowds were constantly passing by. To avoid having too many background silhouettes, the photographer intentionally chose a slightly high-angle downward shot. The reaching-out pose in the frame was actually a spontaneous idea, aiming to give the composition an extended sense of breaking the fourth wall. The white lace outerwear reveals subtle textures under natural light, while the dark blue patterned high-neck inner shirt anchors the lightness of the pale tones. Paired with the pearl ornament on the chest, it brings out the delicate finesse of Traditional Chinese style cosplay.

During morning makeup preparation, several eye makeup schemes were tested. The blue-green contact lenses were specially chosen to recreate the character's detached gaze that seems to see through everything. However, during the convention, wearing time was kept within a reasonable duration, as maintaining optimal eye comfort amidst the crowds is crucial.

In fact, during earlier indoor light tests, the white lace seemed prone to blending into the background, but outdoors against the concrete ground, it became remarkably distinct. Fortunately, there was little wind that day, keeping strands of hair neat. The shooting session didn't take long; under the guidance of the photographer, we quickly captured the desired expression. I rarely make exaggerated facial expressions on camera, so this static, subtle chin-up pose with focused eyes aligns perfectly with my understanding of her aura.

While putting together this outfit, I initially considered adding more accessories, but ultimately decided to leave empty space. The lace outerwear's texture was already rich enough; stacking large necklaces or bracelets would have felt cluttered. A slender silver bracelet was just right, accentuating the look without stealing focus from the main garment.

As these are live Convention photos, there were no overly lavish backdrops or specialized lights; it relied purely on natural light cascading across fabric textures and colors captured through the lens. Though fans and passersby walked past, fully immersing myself in the character made surrounding noise fade away. This is an aspect of conventions I deeply enjoy—not shooting merely for photos, but embracing the brief immersion the character brings in Cosplay photography.

Once the angle was locked, the shutter clicked swiftly. The resulting image turned out softer than expected. The pairing of off-white and blue created a comfortable warm-cool contrast. Retaining surrounding negative space during cropping highlighted the reaching hand in the foreground while concentrating the visual focal point.

Every time I thoughtfully prepare for a character, I gain new insights into them. While this outfit might seem slightly extravagant for daily wear, it feels completely natural and fitting in a convention setting. It was rare to have an overcast day that wasn't too hot, making the lace coat comfortable to wear. As a record of this convention appearance, it was a deeply fulfilling experience.
