The blue glow of the sword cast a striking reflection across the marble floor of the convention hall, while the textures and red crest on the Hylian Shield appeared rich and solid under the fill lights. The core idea behind these Convention photos was to faithfully recreate the heroic, battle-tested texture of this legendary hero.

To pull off the glowing sword, I referred to the official concept dimensions long before the convention, wiring LED strips myself to conceal them inside the crossguard and blade while hiding the battery pack within my arm guard padding. Illuminated props are notoriously tricky to capture under the complex ambient lighting of indoor conventions, as ambient light easily washes out the sword's radiance. The shield was carved and sanded from a solid foam board, with the silver trim painted in three coats of metallic lacquer; carrying it across the venue for most of the day was quite a physical challenge.

Regarding the costume, the blue-and-white tunic was made from a structured, stiff fabric with a tailored waist so arm movements wouldn't be restricted whether drawing the sword or parrying. The segmented shoulder armor was lined with soft padding; while visually impressive, pressing against my shoulder all day left the lining completely soaked in sweat. The pointed elf ears were made of silicone and glued directly to my auricles with cosmetic adhesive; to prevent them from slipping off, I had to consciously restrain my facial expressions throughout the day.

The shooting location was the first-floor hall of the convention center, featuring polished stone flooring with extremely high reflectivity. To separate the character and weapons from the cluttered background, photographer WiFi set up a continuous ice light right in front of me while bouncing diffused light into my torso with a white foam board. Given the dense foot traffic at the convention, we leveraged a wide aperture to thoroughly blur out surrounding booths and crowds—turning even a bright red fire hydrant box into an unobtrusive color blur—thereby accentuating the central subject.

The shooting process was physically demanding as I needed to constantly adjust my stance and center of gravity in place. During low-angle shots, lowering my lower body and shifting weight onto my lead foot were essential to convey a solid, grounded posture. Among the photos in various stances, I love the sword-holding shots best. In the first, kneeling on one knee with the sword tip pointing straight into the ground required focused intensity in my gaze; the subsequent shield-guarding and sideways slashing poses demanded tense muscles to evoke a visceral readiness for incoming combat.

Though the props were heavy, raising the shield instantly immersed me into character with a surge of heroic security. Due to limited indoor space, handling the long sword required extra caution to keep movements controlled and avoid hitting passing attendees. Fortunately, photographer WiFi captured moments with impeccable rhythm without obstructing foot traffic. Prior to shooting, we balanced top lights and speedlights, attaching a soft-focus filter to the lens to prevent the sword's glow from looking harsh, infusing metallic hilt reflections and highlights with a gentle translucency.

All these efforts materialized the moment the shutter clicked. Though hours of shooting left red marks on my shoulders, seeing this photo collection accurately capture the hero's formidable presence made every preparation worthwhile. While the convention hall lighting was complex, this intricate interplay of ambient light actually conferred realistic grit to the reflective armor.
