The summer outdoor swimsuit photos are finally ready to be shared with everyone. This Sangonomiya Kokomi swimsuit outfit highly tests accuracy in design details. From the large dark blue bow on the head and the silver sequins embedded in the chest bow, to the slightly puffy bubble sleeves on the arms, specific body angles were required during the actual shoot to express the weightlessness of the original artwork. Additionally, the wig color shows a subtle, soft gradient under the dusk light. To complement this dreamy feel, wearing light-colored colored contact lenses was also key to enhancing the expressiveness of the eyes. The lightweight sheer skirt on the lower body is the most dynamic element of this look. Under the interplay of flowing water and the evening breeze, the tulle fabric creates a gradient blue water-ripple effect. Although this material looks very light, it easily gets tangled once soaked, so the range of movement had to be controlled to ensure the skirt could spread out naturally.
The shooting time was chosen during the golden hour just before sunset, when the color temperature is warm, yet the clouds in the sky haven't fully dispersed, creating a blend of warm and cool tones. For rim-lit or side-backlit portraits, this light beautifully outlines the soft glow along the subject's silhouette. To ensure the face received enough reflected light, we intentionally adjusted the angle relative to the water surface, letting the shimmering water act as a reflector, thus avoiding the harsh shadows that easily occur in heavy backlighting. Judging from the final results, the evening ambient light forms a very comfortable visual contrast with the blue-and-white swimsuit, delivering a gentle and relaxing visual experience. We also captured the layered ripples on the water, and the integration of these natural elements gives the frames a sense of breathability.
In terms of emotion and body language, the most critical aspect of a poolside shoot is avoiding stiffness. Using a transparent inflatable swim ring as a visual balancing prop helps keep the arm and shoulder muscles relaxed, while the beaded bracelet on the wrist visually echoes the colors of the swim ring. To break away from conventional single-person standing poses, we also tried a semi-seated stretching pose at the edge of the pool deck, utilizing the delicate anklet to visually extend the leg lines. Between tension and relaxation, we sought a natural feeling that fits the summer vacation vibe. Although outdoor photography is limited by the brief lighting window and every shutter click had to synchronize with the rhythm of the water ripples, the final interplay of light and shadow in this set exceeded my expectations for this summer theme.
