This set of Honkai Impact 3rd cosplay featuring Elysia's Herrscher of Human: Ego form is finally edited and released! This shoot, from planning to execution, was independently completed by me alone. Serving as both the model and the photographer indeed meant double the workload, but it also allowed me to control the desired image texture more freely.
Let's first talk about the details of this costume. The overall theme is based on a white and purple color scheme. The off-the-shoulder cut of the upper body paired with golden trim visually enhances the figure. The most eye-catching part of the costume lies in those metallic accessories; the golden wings and bell pendants at the waist carry a lot of weight, making a crisp sound when walking. To capture the moments of natural drape and fluttering during the shoot, I repeatedly adjusted my positioning and posture many times. The outer layer of semi-translucent light purple tulle presents a holographic gradient luster once the lights hit it, which left a massive amount of room for color grading in post-production. The colorful holographic strap tied around the thigh and the white long boots add a touch of technology and layering amidst the interplay of light and shadow.
For the hair and makeup section, I chose long light pink hair with airy bangs, paired with a white feather headpiece on top to create that lightweight and sacred feel. The eye makeup didn't use overly heavy colors, but focused on enlarging the eye shape and highlighting that beauty mark. The lip color was selected as a natural red bean paste tone, striving to make the whole person look clear, translucent, and agile, maintaining unity with the dreamy feel of the clothes.
I am also highly satisfied with the venue backdrop for this shoot. The white-base Roman columns, arched doorways, and carved railings constructed a very classical, temple-like basic structure. Paired with the black birdcage pendant lamps with candle effects on both sides of the scene, and the stained-glass window set off by the lighting directly behind, the ambient atmosphere was truly spot on. During the shoot, I consciously utilized the warm light source from the glass window as rim lighting, forming a warm-and-cold contrast with the white ambient light and purple-pink clothing, preventing the photos from looking monotonous.
In terms of action design, I deliberately shot several different emotional facets, such as the interactive feel of reaching out a hand from a first-person perspective, as well as some half-body close-ups. To capture the flowy nature of the tulle dress, a small fan was also prepared off-camera to blow the skirt hem. For those sitting poses, I borrowed the stairs and railings in the backdrop as leaning points to make the person's posture look more relaxed and natural. As for the wide-angle shot, it utilized a low-angle upward capture, combined with the foreground's snowy fluff texture and blue-and-white faux flowers, maximizing the image's spatial depth and the scene's magnificence.
Although it was my first time attempting such a high-completeness single-person self-shoot, reviewing the screen to adjust angles while shooting instead made me realize my control over image composition. I enjoy studying light and shadow in my daily life, so this photoset counts as a relatively satisfying practice, hoping to merge Elysia's unique temperament with my own understanding of photography during this Anime cosplay project.
On the equipment side, a large-aperture prime lens was used to blur the background, allowing the character to maintain sufficient visual focus amidst the complex backdrop. Post-production only simply enhanced color saturation and the transparency of highlights without doing too much deformation processing, preserving the authentic texture of the apparel and the model herself for this Herrscher of Human: Ego cosplay setup.
