[March 7th Cosplay] Convention Record of the Pink and White Light Gauze Custom Design

When I was working overtime the night before the convention to adjust the layers of the wig bangs, I actually anticipated that this outfit would have a great texture in the final photos. Especially the pink gradient hair ends would refract a visible soft halo under the stage overhead lights. Choosing this custom design of white lace base pieced with a pink tulle skirt, the original intention was to break through the inherent visual of her original blue-and-white color scheme, using warm tones and low saturation to explore the softer side of the character's personality. The wig utilizes a high-end customized gradient dyeing process, with a light fleshy pink at the roots gradually transitioning to magenta towards the bottom. Every change in lighting shifts the depth of the hair surface's luster. To maintain this puffiness, more than ten hidden crimped crimps were braided inside. The eye makeup is paired with bright blue colored contact lenses of 14.2mm diameter. This pupil size can present an almost child-like focus in the lens. Paired with the lower eyelid drooping eyelash drawing technique, even when facing powerful flashes, the eye contours will not be flattened due to heavy makeup wash-out.

The most labor-intensive part of the skirt outfit lies in splicing the pearl chains and lace chokers at the neck and shoulder positions. To ensure the straps wouldn't slip down due to the weight, seamless silicone anti-slip treatments were actually applied to the back, keeping the overall styling stable even when the convention venue is crowded. The light blue-grey gradient sheer gauze on the head used styling wires to fix, which avoids blocking the eyes while enriching the background extension of the overall silhouette. The photo-taking process on-site was actually more effortless than expected because holding the cotton plush dolls served as a visual interaction pivot. When the semi-transparent lace fingerless gloves droop naturally, they beautifully contour the hand lines, avoiding exposing the rigid joint strain under strong lights. Although the white exhibition lights easily wash out details, I specifically used matte foundation in the base makeup to prevent oily reflections from eating up the facial contours. The custom pink and white spliced flower decoration on the chest is actually a three-layer handmade structure: the innermost layer is stiff mesh tulle, the middle is a pearlescent bowknot, and the outermost layer is a colored trim, ensuring an eye-catching three-dimensional look under multi-angle shooting at the convention.

Since today is a special character birthday milestone, many fellow fans passing by would first recognize the wig color, and then give feedback combined with the custom design style on the chest. This real-time interaction actually tests the real-world acceptance of a cosplay setting much better than a studio shoot. Standing and sitting for half a day is a real test of physical strength, especially when the skirt is fanned out on a chair—not only do I have to mind the shape of the pleats, but I also have to control my sitting posture to prevent the veil from shifting. This immersive experience completely merged me into this custom design. This pink and white gradient hair color leans warm under indoor lights, but once it gets close to the cold light panels of the exhibition booth, it reveals a distinct icy, transparent quality. Especially the gradient layers at the hair ends form a warm-and-cool complement with the light blue colored contact lenses in the photos. This implicit color clashing actually increases the subject's recognition amidst the cluttered convention background. The white lace splicing pearls camisole straps are a massive test of manual endurance. To prevent the pearls from clanking while walking, the internal connection lines were entirely reinforced with high-tenacity thread. Although it increased production costs, it indeed made the final product look much lighter and more agile. The sheer tulle gloves at the wrists are exactly long enough to cover the middle section of the forearm, which, paired with the support of the skin-colored flesh base of the arms, elongates the visual extension of the entire upper body. During a brief rest in between shoots, the golden-capped straw cup and transparent water bottle on the table unexpectedly became warm and cool color accents in the composition, a touch of everyday life that is hard to capture in a studio setting. In terms of props, the random framing of the two cotton plush dolls added a sense of narrative to the overall picture, corresponding to the extended visual elements of the character. Although the entire makeup and styling took an extremely long time, looking back at the convention photos from the moment I removed my makeup, I find that dreamlike texture hovering between reality and the 2D world is exactly the best visual state I want to present at this stage.
