[Sangonomiya Kokomi Cosplay] A Belated Summer Beach and Azure Promise

This summer beach-themed Swimsuit cosplay for Sangonomiya Kokomi was actually shot earlier this summer. Originally, my plan was to release it on her birthday as a sweet surprise for everyone who loves her in Genshin Impact. However, I got completely overwhelmed during that period, and with post-processing schedules continually pushed back, I ended up missing the birthday release entirely. Looking back through these photos today, even though summer is drawing to a close, seeing the sunset glow over the island and feeling the atmosphere brought by the ocean breeze still feels incredibly refreshing, so I decided to share this belated piece of summer.

The overall costume design centers on ocean and Hydro elements, utilizing various shades of blue as the main tone. The top is a gradient strapless bandeau style, accented with a large, eye-catching dark blue bow across the chest, paired with color-matched sheer mesh arm sleeves that add depth and a touch of flowing agility. The lower body features a lightweight blue-purple gradient translucent skirt that billows naturally in the sea breeze as I walk across the sand, while subtle silver chain accents at the waist bestow a casual yet weightless visual aesthetic.

For hair, I went with long, straight silver-white locks. To give the hair strands a breathable, natural drape rather than a stiff synthetic look, I specifically instructed my wig stylist to layer the ends and add subtle highlights. The light blue bow atop my head serves as the soul of the styling, instantly maximizing her signature Hydro element visual markers. For makeup, I sought a balance between cool aloofness and playful warmth: adding fine shimmer to the eye makeup to catch the light while avoiding heavy tones, keeping my face clean and translucent to mirror the island environment and recreate her clear, watery elegance.

We shot right at dusk on a resort-style beach for this Island photography session. The first photo captures a candid moment of me standing beside a thatched sunshade umbrella, lit primarily by the ambient evening twilight supplemented by the photographer's powerful off-camera flash fill. The advantage of this setup is that as background ambient light fades, the subject pops crisply from the backdrop with beautifully luminous skin tones, while preserving the pink-and-blue twilight hues along the horizon. This contrast between warm and cool tones, light and shadow, immediately creates three-dimensional lighting depth.

The second image shows me seated on a blue-and-white striped wooden crate—a personal favorite frame. This pose actually demands more core strength than standing; with arms lightly crossed in front of my chest, I needed to keep my back straight and core subtly engaged to look poised without appearing stiff, while highlighting bodily curves and smooth leg lines. The transparent block-heeled sandals were specifically chosen for this swimsuit look—the clear material avoids visual clutter while visually elongating leg proportions, seamlessly bridging my skin tone with the beach scenery.

Having done cosplay for so many years, I've realized that when interpreting characters with magical or fantasy themes, "ease and relaxation" is even more vital than meticulous accuracy. Putting on costume and wig doesn't automatically transform you into the character; authentic expressions, posture, and your comfort in front of the lens directly dictate the aura transmitted. Thus, during this shoot, I relaxed into interactions—gently touching the ribbon, raising an arm—allowing the photographer to capture spontaneous, vibrant moments. Moreover, beach shoots are grueling physical work: soft sand requires delicate balance when moving in block heels, and while sea breezes feel refreshing, they constantly dishevel wigs and skirts. Many seemingly casual gestures took repeated adjustments to align with the wind direction at the exact shutter snap. Yet seeing the final images makes every hassle entirely worthwhile.

Consider this short journal entry my belated recap of this outdoor location shoot. Makeup, costume, and props were carefully tailored step by step based on character settings.
