[Kaveh cosplay] Illustrating an Old Book: Seeking the Realm of Aranara

Illustrating an old book with Aranara as the subject was truly a delightful decision. From the moment I first conceived this look, I wanted to create a feeling of bringing paintbrushes into nature to search for stories. The sunlight today was perfect; spreading out the props on the lawn made it feel as though I could truly sense the presence of those little ones.

In the lore, Aranara are wonderfully magical creatures—kind, pure, and fond of playing in the forest. Although they might be invisible to the eye, I always feel that as long as you approach with a sense of wonder, this greenery will respond. It was very windy on the shoot day, causing the hem and hair to flutter in the breeze. Holding that blue-green pencil in my hand, I kept adjusting my posture to find the most natural angle. How to let the light fall right on the tip of the pencil, and how to blend the distant reeds with the nearby grass into a harmonious layer required long and repeated communication between the photographer and me on set.

When we found the staircase in front of that modern building, the spatial framing suddenly became very interesting. With the white walls extending outward, sitting there and opening the book made me feel as if I had truly become a creator sketching stories onto an old manuscript. Look—the cyan toy at hand or the faint patterns on the book pages are all concrete expressions of that ethereal yet vibrant world. With light and shadow falling across my face and the surroundings quiet save for the wind, I felt momentarily dazed, thinking those little creatures might actually be peeking at us from behind the wall corner.

Afterwards, we returned to the natural grass to shoot. In the photo lying on the lawn, sunlight happened to spill across my face, and the photographer asked me to relax naturally. I casually picked up a butterfly prop to shield near my eye; that warm touch of being embraced by sunlight, paired with the scent of green grass and soil, made me feel that this costume wasn't restrictive at all. In fact, cosplay isn't just about pursuing visual accuracy, but should also attempt to understand a character's inner state. Since Kaveh is set as an imaginative architect and designer, his search for inspiration in nature must be effortless, vibrant, and full of life. This costume features many exquisite panelings and textures, such as the wrapped sleeve cuffs, the unique geometric collar decoration on the chest, and multi-colored tassel accents. These details performed beautifully under sunlight, with metallic buckles and fabric textures looking richly tactile in natural light.

Although this was my first time attempting an outdoor shoot in this style, I benefited greatly from location selection to pose refinement. In those moments pretending to draw with the pencil, I kept feeling as though a tiny Aranara would leap out from under the tip. Even if it was just imagination, it felt wonderfully cozy. Completing this set of work made me deeply feel the emotional resonance this character imparts to such beautiful imagination. We hoped to capture not just the costume through the lens, but also that relaxing atmospheric photography vibe.

Finally, I returned to the lawn to pick up the props. The grass was lush, and sometimes props sank into it, requiring rearranging. Yet this process added more spontaneous fun to the creation. The moment I turned my back to the camera and looked into the distance, I felt as though I had truly completed a brief journey of resonance with the character. Perhaps the Aranara really are quietly watching from somewhere unnoticed, passing joy to everyone who approaches them. After all, who could resist an opportunity to wander through a fairytale? Though I will return to seek more inspiration, the harvests of this moment are already enough to fill my heart with joy.
