[Shenhe cosplay] Genshin Impact Lantern Rite Snowy Night Under the Moon: Looking Back with a Smile

This set of Lantern Rite-themed photos took quite a bit of thought, from selecting costume fabrics to finalizing the set design. During the shoot, we didn't rely on overly flashy props; instead, we focused on crafting atmospheric depth and capturing the character's signature aura.

Considerable effort went into choosing the materials for this outfit. The main skirt uses a silver-gray satin fabric with a glossy finish that catches the moonlight with shimmering reflections while maintaining depth in shadowed areas. Wrapped around the outside is a plush white fur collar whose soft texture draped across shoulders and arms balances the visual negative space of the halter-neck and backless design. Paired with black sleeves, black over-the-knee socks, and a high side slit, the look achieves a crisp, refined elegance within its cool demeanor. Red beaded accents, gold-and-red braided hair accessories, as well as red tassels and subtle floral patterns on the skirt bring a touch of warmth and festive joy to the cool palette of silver hair and blue eyes.

For this shoot, we captured two distinct compositions. In the first shot, I chose to stand beside a woven bamboo screen, half-turned while looking back over my shoulder. While this semi-obscured framing is quite common in cosplay photography, it effectively highlights shoulder and neck lines while enhancing eye contact. With soft, gentle lighting, my back and collarbone are subtly revealed, which, paired with the subtly tinted red hair tips, imbues the image with a narrative quality reminiscent of Red plum blossoms in the snow.

However, when it comes to visual payoff, I personally prefer the atmosphere of the second shot under the full moon. The photographer intentionally darkened the background and set up an oversized, bright full moon as the primary light source. Artificial snow was sprinkled on set, with delicate falling flakes creating beautiful spatial layering between frosted white leaves and the dark backdrop. Posing for this shot required naturally touching snow-covered branches with a light grip—just enough to give leaves subtle movement without breaking the serenity. This posture severely tested my core strength, as a half-turn combined with a slight backward lean requires solid abdominal tension to avoid looking slouched. Meanwhile, this angle perfectly showcases the high-slit skirt and black stockings, balancing character lore with visual appeal like a piece of Shenhe fanart come to life.

From a practical grooming standpoint, silver-white wigs can be tricky to style on set, as frizzy or flattened strands quickly look unnatural. We intentionally added wispy layers and volume to evoke a sense of hair drifting in gentle breezes and snow. For makeup, we eschewed heavy eyeshadow in favor of a clean, translucent base, focusing on lashes and eyeliner to amplify the blue depth of the eyes. Soft peach lips completed the look, making her appearance feel approachable yet infused with the gentle hope characteristic of Liyue's Lantern Rite.

The bamboo curtains and frost-dusted leaves used in the set design serve as strong regional elements of Liyue. Though the style leans realistic with a touch of fantasy, controlling light during an actual shoot remains immensely challenging. If illumination on the moon and snow is too bright, the entire image becomes washed out and loses the profound mystery of standing silently in the dark night; if too dark, the rich fabric textures fail to show. This final set achieves a balanced harmony between color and light, blending the crisp chill of a Liyue snowy night with the warmth of New Year festivities. Overall, it was a deeply enjoyable Cosplay photoshoot experience, and I hope these visuals convey the quiet yet steadfast guardianship waiting behind Liyue's thousands of Lantern Rite lights.
