[Kurumi Tokisaki cosplay] Date A Live Summer Beach Swimsuit Project

Bringing this Date A Live Kurumi Tokisaki swimsuit concept from planning to finished edits took roughly two weeks. Opting for a Swimsuit cosplay theme stemmed from wanting to capture a side of Kurumi distinct from her school uniform and Astral Dress in the heat of summer. The focal point of the styling rested on the monochrome bikini, designed with exquisite craftsmanship—a sleek black foundation framed by white ruffled trims, punctuated by dainty black ribbon bows across the bust and waistline. Draped over my shoulders, the semi-translucent purple chiffon cardigan brought a breezy, fluttering drape to balance the structured silhouette of the swimwear. For headwear, a wide-brimmed straw hat edged with white lace offered sun protection while embodying Kurumi's ornate, vintage gothic flair. On the cosmetics front, Red eyes contact lenses were an indispensable must; blending crimson tones across the lids paired with bold red lips helped channel the character's dangerous, seductive aura. The wig was trimmed with neat bangs and parted into low Twintails on either side, accented with purple rose ornaments and black ribbons to honor original design motifs.

The location was scouted in an outdoor beach-themed set decorated with green palm tree cutouts and colorful inflatable props. The daytime sunlight was intensely fierce; to soften the harsh highlights, the photographer spent considerable effort adjusting shooting angles. While the white sand looked idyllic, barefoot posing in swimwear across the hot ground proved to be quite a workout in facial composure. In the first shot, sitting cross-legged on a wicker chair with hands joined before the chest flattered the swimsuit's tailoring while highlighting subtle sensuality, taking several takes to seize the ideal expression. Later on, we shifted to a kneeling look-back pose, letting the sheer cardigan billow loosely to showcase spinal lines and waist-to-hip proportions, with the violet and black palette popping vividly under direct sunshine. The second series went with standing gestures pointing toward the lens, angling the torso to accentuate bodily curves. Finally, sitting back into the wicker chair with crossed legs allowed for an intimate foot close-up, with purple bow flip-flops resting beside the seat.

Kurumi is fundamentally ruthless and cold-blooded in combat yet conceals multifaceted, tender complexities within. Under this relaxed summer guise, I sought to project that elusive detachment through focused eye-lines while maintaining playful, spirited body language. For the opening shot, I specifically asked to tilt the hat brim slightly lower, casting soft shadows across the brow to slim facial contours while amplifying an enigmatic mood. However, because the red lenses easily caught ambient flare under bright light, we frequently adjusted relative to the sun, occasionally shooting backlit with the photographer providing forward fill light. The sheer chiffon cardigan caught ocean breezes beautifully, requiring us to wait for wind gusts to freeze that weightless, ethereal texture. While the final frames look effortless, on-set management remained intense to constantly check garment tension and avoid wardrobe slips. Despite the blistering heat, seeing the finished proofs achieve our exact vision made it immensely fulfilling.
