[Estelle cosplay] Trails in the Sky: Cosplay fitting Log & Comic con preparation

Today I tried on Estelle's outfit for a Cosplay fitting session to get ready for the upcoming CD comic con as part of my Comic con preparation. This costume genuinely has so many intricate details, and making it took considerable effort. Starting with the top: the white short sleeves paired with the green collar immediately channel the signature vibrancy from the original design. The yellow-and-white stripes across the chest and the texture of the necktie are equally crucial; I opted for a structured fabric to support the entire silhouette cleanly. The dark brown corset and belt at the waist serve as the visual anchor of the styling, and I took care to find a metallic buckle with authentic texture so it wouldn't look cheap under convention lighting.

The yellow-and-orange patchwork skirt is the most recognizable feature of this attire. To recreate that bouncy, layered flare, I adjusted the curve and drape of the hem multiple times. The dark piping along the skirt hem is the finishing touch, preventing the skirt from looking like a plain patchwork of color blocks. Moving down to the legs, white over-the-knee Stockings were an absolute must. While they can get a bit warm in summer, that temperature is negligible when striving to faithfully recreate the character. The elasticity and tension of the Stockings are also vital—too tight and they pinch uncomfortably, yet too loose and they constantly slide down. After testing multiple fabrics, I settled on this pair with excellent stretch and opacity, and the worn result is super satisfying.

The footwear is another major highlight: tri-color short boots in orange, yellow, and white, complete with metallic buckles. I poured plenty of thought into these boots—not only matching their visual aesthetic, but also accounting for the grueling demand of walking around a comic con all day. Adding cushioned thicker soles makes them vastly more comfortable for walking than flat soles. The straps and buckles on the boots are fully adjustable, snugly contouring the calf lines.

On my wrists, I equipped dark bracers accented with orange-yellow trim, perfectly harmonizing with the overarching palette. The long bo staff is the true soul of the entire kit: a red shaft capped with silver ends, wrapped with white grip tape in the center by hand to enhance tactile realism. During earlier handling, I noticed the center of gravity was slightly off, so I counterbalanced the staff's weight distribution so it swings more smoothly and effortlessly at the convention.

For the head, the wig features long reddish-brown twintails crowned by an ahoge cowlick, instantly bringing the character's energetic spirit to life. The hair ornaments use gray metallic accessories with great fidelity. During this Cosplay fitting, however, I noticed the weight of the twin tails puts noticeable strain on the scalp, so I added an anti-slip hairnet inside; I'll refine the styling before the official shoot to keep the hair strands looking organic and voluminous.

Honestly, every time I prepare a new costume, the greatest joy lies in watching disjointed fabrics and accessories piece together into a living, breathing character. From drafting patterns and selecting textiles to sewing and fittings, the entire journey feels like an intimate dialogue with the character. Preparing this outfit stems from my enduring love for the story in Trails in the Sky—Estelle's forthright, resilient spirit resonates with me deeply. I plan to officially debut this Estelle cosplay at the CD convention, hoping to produce fantastic photos. During the fitting, I practiced some of her signature stances; twirling the bo staff carries real presence and momentum! Once the schedule is set, we'll scout outdoor locations to capture that authentic journeying feeling through the Liberl Kingdom.
