Unboxed and tried on Sunna's Zenless Zone Zero Maid outfit today! Found it while tidying up my room and decided to hop right in front of the camera.
Although I previously thought modifying an everyday makeup look might end in a disaster, the actual result turned out surprisingly plausible. While some details might be a bit rough compared to top-tier cosplayers, I'm quite satisfied with the overall atmosphere.
Let's talk about the main structure of this outfit first. The top consists of a white base shirt, but the neckline and cuffs feature rich ruffled designs, giving it a great visual sense of layering. The long red tie on the chest is a captivating highlight that looks particularly lively against the black-and-white dominant palette. Above the tie sits a small golden emblem or bell ornament, preventing the upper body from feeling plain. Black lace-ups and paneling designs on both sides of the garment, along with black-and-white ruffled sleeves, faithfully recreate the character's signature essence.
As for the lower body, it's a black-and-white color-blocked multi-tiered ruffled mini skirt. The skirt volume is generous, bringing out a delightful fluffiness with every step or subtle movement. What satisfied me most during this try-on was the pair of small white wings on the back—tiny and cute, adding a lively, little-angel ambiance that blends unexpectedly well with the Cat ears on the headpiece.
Moving on to the legs: this time I picked white thigh-high stockings. The black zigzag edging on the socks along with the small red bow tie are packed with details that beautifully flatter leg shapes. Paired with black-and-white chunky platform sneakers, it balances 2D anime maid cuteness with everyday street trends. This combination is super comfortable for street walking or wandering around anime conventions without the foot pain brought by high heels. The patterns on the shoes also echo the black-and-white elements on the outfit above seamlessly.
For hair and head styling, the mint green short curly wig is super refreshing with plenty of volume. Combined with thick straight bangs, it instantly makes face shape appear compact. The Cat ears headpiece paired with ghost and small animal-shaped hair clips looks playful and fun. Since I didn't prepare a full specialized cosplay makeup look, I used everyday cosmetics for a quick makeover transformation. Putting on yellow-green contact lenses, I lengthened my eyeliner a bit and widened the under-eye blush gradient. Despite lacking intricate eyeshadow layering, this adapted makeup style surprisingly conveyed a gentle laziness and that surreal beauty unique to anime characters. The handheld red-black-white megaphone prop also serves as a highly expressive element in full-body shots.
In truth, this photoshoot was very spontaneous, using a full-length mirror in my room to document the first try-on state. The pink cartoon bag I randomly picked up unexpectedly became a great composition element in close-up shots. Without going to a professional studio or planning complex outdoor locations, this impulse moment in daily life gave me a taste of the purest joy in cosplay.
The world-building and character art of Zenless Zone Zero have always possessed a strong, distinctive style, and trying out this Maid outfit was a fresh new experience for me. Sunna's (Mira's) design retains the sweet elements of a classic Maid outfit while incorporating sharp, sleek tailoring, finding a great balance between anime fantasy and reality. The softness from natural lighting during shooting, combined with my adapted everyday makeup, successfully conveyed the intended vibe. Naturally, there's room for improvement—such as wig curves, garment edge flatness, and makeup refinement—which can all be polished over time. But the cuteness and comfort of this costume were truly my biggest delight today.
