I have always wanted to shoot this Shigure Ui school uniform look with a casual yet playful vibe, so I chose an outdoor playground as the scene for this outdoor portrait. The wig is specially customized in a light blonde, and the curvature of the blonde twin tails took a long time to adjust. To restore that fluffy and lightweight feeling, the roots were treated with an under-curl technique. For the eye makeup, emerald green colored contact lenses were paired with a matching eyeshadow palette to make the gaze look more agile. The material for the shirt and pinafore dress was chosen to be breathable cotton and linen, and the metal buckle on the belt was specially given a matte finish to prevent eye-catching reflections. During the shoot, the motion of the swing was utilized to capture natural dynamics, such as the moment of looking back in profile in the first picture or reaching out a hand, where the shutter speed needed to keep up for this swing photography session. In terms of lighting, the afternoon natural light filtered through the leaves to form dappled shadows, which perfectly softened the facial contours and made the skin tone translucent without needing extra reflector boards. The pairing of white thigh-highs and red-and-white canvas shoes is the highlight of this outfit, creating a color echo with the red schoolbag. The color grading in post-processing leans toward a slightly warmer Japanese style, lowering the contrast and preserving highlight details to give the overall image a more airy feel. I prepared many small props this time, such as the yellow balls on the swing chains and the heart-shaped pendant on the side, adding to the playfulness. Although outdoor portrait shooting is easily affected by the wind, capturing the windless intervals allows for very clean frames. The whole process was very relaxing, as natural as swaying on a swing on a weekend afternoon.
