Today's shoot theme is Marie in her Trinity Academy gym uniform, with the core setting being that line, "I've prepared ice water for you, Sensei." The venue chosen this time is an outdoor tennis court, where the bright yellow chairs and the court colors perfectly match Marie's clean and energetic feel in the game.
To pursue realism, I prepared this bottle of blue sports drink as a prop. It not only fills the blank space in hand movements within the frame but also perfectly fits the setting of the character bringing water to the teacher. This kind of high-saturation light in an outdoor portrait is actually quite a test for the makeup texture, so I specially chose a lightweight and breathable base makeup to avoid looking greasy under the sun, while deepening the eye makeup details to enhance the brightness of my gaze. The wig was also specially trimmed to retain the airy feel of the bangs, and paired with these fluffy animal ears, it maintains a good sense of hair flow under both backlighting and front lighting.
For the costume, I chose this blue and white color-blocked short-sleeved sportswear set, combined with pure white over-knee socks and black low-top canvas shoes, making the overall visuals very refreshing. The composition of the first photo, sitting on a tall yellow chair, utilizes the geometric lines of the venue environment, and paired with the naturally dangling leg posture, it looks quite relaxed and comfortable. Photo 2 showcases another state, draping the jacket over the arm and holding a bottle of water near the forehead in a cooling gesture, which gives more of a realistic scene feel of catching one's breath after exercising. Photo 3 shows sitting on a bench with legs naturally crossed and the jacket casually half-draped over the shoulder, emphasizing a relaxed sense of after-class rest.
During the shoot, we chose multiple camera positions to showcase different sides. The low-angle upward shot elongated the silhouette, and combined with the small gesture of putting the water bottle close to the forehead in Photo 2, it looked more dynamic and filled with tension. On the other hand, the eye-level angle could better express the character's cute and approachable nature; the image of sitting on the bench with crossed legs, complemented by the skirt hem slightly fluttering in the wind, beautifully captured that atmosphere of quiet companionship. Regarding prop interaction, I wasn't just holding the water bottle; I also included some micro-hand movements, such as gently rubbing the bottle cap or casually resting the arm holding the bottle on my knee. These details make the frozen photos appear much more alive. For grasping the character's expression, I leaned toward controlling it between "gentle" and "everyday" without over-exaggerating. The focus of my gaze was also intentionally placed slightly off-camera, creating an illusion of making eye contact with someone outside the lens (Sensei). The makeup was paired with light blue colored contacts close to the character's original look, reducing the stiffness brought by colored lenses and making the gaze look clearer and more natural. The overall hair and makeup adjustments took about an hour, solely to ensure that the facial contours remained sharp and dimensional under strong light without losing the details of the facial features.
In fact, many cosplayers tend to look too forced when shooting sports-themed characters. This time, I tried to capture some of the laziness during exercise intervals. For instance, resting while holding the water bottle or lifting the bottle against the forehead—these subtle body languages inject a soul into the frame. Throughout the shoot, the light shifted over time from afternoon to slightly slanted, and the changes in shadows also added different emotional layers to this photo set.
For post-processing, I preserved the color saturation of the original images, only making slight adjustments to the light and dark contrast to balance the bright yellow background, the blue of the tennis court, and the character's skin tone. No overly heavy filters were used, striving to restore the natural and real airy feel of the outdoor scene. The overall concept for this shoot was simply "refreshing." Huge thanks to the venue provider and the fellow enthusiasts who helped control the light and shadow, together completing this work full of atmosphere in our Blue Archive project.
