[Dorothy Cosplay] GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE's Summer—This Is How You Play in the Water

Putting on this white top and pink ruffled miniskirt along with white over-the-knee socks, the moment seawater covered my ankles, it truly felt like summer had officially begun.

The theme for this shoot was playing in the water at the beach. The prop prepared was a huge transparent glitter swim ring, which refracts atmospheric spots of light under seaside sunlight. The pink wig combined with this beach swimwear look matches the brightness of the original character setting visually. Especially the white socks—despite knowing I would step into beach sand and seawater, the resulting half-body close-ups and full-body compositions displayed my lines and proportions wonderfully.

The shooting process was actually a bit tougher than imagined. When the sea breeze blew past, my hair and skirt hem became hard to control. To capture dynamic splashes of water, I had to repeatedly run and jump on the wet sand. Barefoot on the shoreline, the feeling underfoot carried a distinct chill. The moment water splashed up, although it soaked my skirt and socks, the natural dynamic tension captured by the lens was far more striking than static poses.

The photographer was very experienced in capturing dynamic motion, creating a lovely color echo between reflections on the sand and the distant green mountains and clear waters. The inclusion of the transparent swim ring not only framed the composition but also gave my gestures a clear direction to extend. While taking photos, I needed to adjust my center of gravity to ensure both the water splashes underfoot and the outfit edges presented good states. Seaside light was quite soft, allowing us to present a crisp, transparent image quality without relying heavily on artificial lighting.

Running and jumping at the beach in summer burns a lot of stamina and makes you sweat, but being able to shoot the desired results—especially the refreshing vibe created by coordinating with the transparent swim ring and sea breeze—made the final outcome deeply satisfying. The drawstring design of the white top and pink miniskirt maintained a light, airy state when moving along the water's edge. Every captured movement raised my anticipation for the final photos.

Looking back at these photos, what moves me most is that feeling of carefree ease by the water. Whether standing on one leg or kicking up water splashes, my overall state felt very relaxed. As an over-the-knee socks cosplay project requiring a thorough Cosplay photography presentation, I made ample preparations beforehand in everything from hair and makeup to outfit styling. The design chosen this time was a modified swim costume style suitable for easy movement, ensuring both character recognition and ease of action in complex outdoor environments.

To match the reflection effect of the transparent glitter swim ring during shooting, I experimented with various physical interactions. When holding the prop for half-body framing, the arm lines helped smooth out the transitions and stabilize my center of gravity. The flowing trajectory of long pink hair in the sea breeze also affected the mood of the frame; sometimes I had to adjust the wig's direction with the wind to give the hair a breezy, carefree look. Shooting for a long time meant sea salt stuck to my skin and socks, which felt sticky, but the bright setting always helped me recover my shooting rhythm quickly. Although this summer outdoor location wasn't as flawlessly polished as an indoor studio shoot, the real natural environment added vivid warmth. The shifting light and shade at the beach constantly altered the color textures, requiring real-time adjustments of camera angles based on the sun's position to ensure soft lighting ratios across my face and body.

This outfit actually tests one's ability to maintain poise during outdoor shoots. Because the white top and miniskirt were short, I constantly had to mind my movement range to prevent exposure or avoid letting splashes submerge the skirt. Fortunately, the white over-the-knee socks didn't turn yellow after getting wet, but instead added a sense of cool freshness on camera. Stepping on the wet sand, every step left clear footprints, which the photographer captured in the background.

After completing multiple underwater and shore setups, although returning to the guesthouse required thoroughly washing the costume and wig, this seaside outdoor session truly let me experience the vitality an outdoor summer photoshoot should have. Wrapping up before sunset, the light retained a clean, transparent, and pure feel.
