After finishing the photos for this custom design of Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves, I noticed an interesting point while sorting them: the color and texture of this wig are very similar to the Zelda set I did previously. However, because I re-braided it into double plaits and adjusted the position to fit the elven ears, the overall visual center of gravity changed significantly. This is one of the most fun parts of cosplay styling.
The core of this 'custom design' style was retaining character traits while blending in the relaxed feel of everyday fashion. For the outfit, I chose a Liz Lisa floral white off-shoulder dress. The ruffles, pleats, and waist-cinching design, paired with the sheer skirt layer, amplified the overall lightness. Abandoning the original heavy battle armor for a 'soft girl' style actually made it easier to capture the arcade-style everyday vibe. Paired with a matching pink floral handbag and white platform bow shoes, the color scheme is highly consistent, creating a soft visual continuity. In the third photo, switching to a black tank top paired with silver chains and blue pointed accessories is a more sharp, cool look, which frames well with my partner.
The shooting location was a well-lit arcade. In the first photo, the neon light from inside the claw machine hitting the clothes through the transparent cabinet added a dreamlike filter, perfect for this fairy-tale-like custom design. As for the cover photo (Photo 4), it's a mirror selfie I'm quite satisfied with. The benefit of this mirror perspective is that it displays the headgear, earrings, waist ratio, and leg extension simultaneously. The white platform shoes paired with sheer white stockings not only elongate the leg lines but also add layers, fitting the aesthetic of 'custom design' fans well. During the shoot, I'm used to controlling the shutter with a small remote; in photo 2, you can see the black device in my hand, which keeps the selfie perspective comfortable and increases the success rate.
A core joy of cosplay custom design is extracting core elements—like this blonde hair, elven ears, and asymmetrical braids—and combining them with real-life items of different textures. This allows people to instantly recognize the original character while creating a fresh, dimensional-wall-breaking style. Pairing this with relatively simple clothing also leaves room for performance. Arcades, mirrors, lockers—any daily scene becomes a fitting backdrop.
This final look is neither too extravagant to look out of place in a real setting, nor does it lose the character's unique fantasy temperament. The whole process, from setting the style and adjusting the wig to finding the right light and angle, was an enjoyable experience. I hope this different style presentation of Cartethyia brings you a new perspective.
