Let's dive right into this Texas and Lappland twin wolves shoot from Arknights that we did a while back. For this shoot, I took on the Texas cosplay, while my partner cosplayed Lappland. Our pairing is already a widely discussed duo in the game's lore, so we opted for an everyday anime-style uniform look to accentuate the natural contrast between the characters. On the black-haired side, the outfit combined a dark sleeveless vest, a white shirt, and a bright blue tie; to prevent the styling from feeling overly rigid, I styled a fluffy black wolf-ear wig to soften the overall tone. On the white-haired side, along with her signature pale grey eyes and fluffy white hair tufts, she wore a color-blocked red-and-blue neckerchief around the collar and a pair of dark blue fingerless gloves, bringing balanced harmony to the overall color palette.
Before going for outdoor shoots or attending conventions, finding an indoor spot with good lighting to snap some test-look bloopers is our habitual way to unwind before getting fully into character. For instance, the shot where we share a thin white stick between our teeth created a humorous vibe, echoing the funny comment asking "what kind of Platonic pose is that?" We initially just wanted a candid close-up with strong visual interaction, but the comedic meme effect turned out surprisingly on point. Many outsiders might assume cosplay photos turn out well as long as the makeup is done, but in truth, securing hairpieces and wigs, along with fine-tuning gazes, micro-expressions, and body posture to match the character's personality, all require continuous calibration in front of the lens.
Both wigs used this time were very sleek and compliant. For the black wig, a lot of time and effort went into styling to create a fluffy, layered look, and thankfully it turned out looking natural on camera without feeling heavy or flattening the crown of the head. My partner's white wig was relatively easier to manage, though the white ear-like horns or small topknot structures on top still took careful fixing with bobby pins and styling gel beforehand. The metallic badge on the neckpiece and the gold buttons on the vest caught the indoor warm light beautifully, ensuring the black-and-white color palette never felt monotonous.
During the shoot, our chemistry as partners was excellent. Setting aside the characters' canon dynamic of bickering banter and deep bonds, being able to relax in front of the camera and play around with this playful aesthetic was super fun in itself. Once you're standing in a bustling convention hall or a formal studio, that rigid "working mode" often makes it hard to capture such relaxed moments. The emotions in these photos feel very genuine—especially Lappland's "finger gun" gesture wearing the fingerless glove paired with a natural grin, perfectly showcasing the character's playful yet effortless edge from the story. Meanwhile, Texas responds with a cool, composed gaze and slightly pursed lips; though sharing the prop unexpectedly generated meme material, that gap-moe contrast was precisely the core essence we wanted to capture.
For cosplayers like us who frequently gather in front of the lens to bring characters to life, the most enjoyable part is always this entire process—from applying base makeup, gluing down wigs, and adjusting costume accessories, to finally dialing in the camera angle and lighting to snap that perfect mood in just a few seconds. The two photos selected here capture a very casual, authentic slice of life without relying on overly complex sets or heavy post-processing filters, letting character traits and costume details carry the entire atmosphere. It presents that "twin wolves" dynamic—seemingly aloof yet profoundly bonded—in a relaxed way for fellow fans who love this lore.
Additionally, since two people were in the frame simultaneously, special care had to be taken with shooting angles and lighting to prevent one person from overexposing or having facial features shadowed. Fortunately, the overhead indoor lighting combined with reflector fill preserved the facial contours and hair textures for both of us. I'm really looking forward to taking this animal ear outfit and uniform to shoot different styles with my partner in the future, such as outdoor natural lighting or battle-damaged scenes, which might spark an entirely fresh dynamic beyond today's casual uniform feel.
