[Himouto! Umaru-chan cosplay] Otaku Girl's Daily Life: The Joy of Carbonated Drinks and Game Consoles

Deciding to shoot a set of Umaru photos in a guesthouse really gives off that Otaku girl vibe. Originally, I planned to shoot swimwear in Chongqing, but due to the weather and feeling it would be a waste to leave the rented guesthouse empty, we changed plans on short notice. We stayed indoors all day and shot a set of Himouto! Umaru-chan photos with a very cozy, homey atmosphere.

Since it's Umaru, the theme is naturally gaming, snacks, and a state of complete relaxation. Changing into this orange plush hooded cape and white long-sleeved undershirt, and putting on the blonde wig, instantly brought out that lazy yet cute feeling. During the shoot, we didn't try to strike cool poses; instead, we just went with whatever was most comfortable.

This set of photos was entirely completed in two spots inside the guesthouse. On the bed, we scattered cola, potato chips, Pocky biscuit sticks, yellow beverage cans, and a Nintendo Switch across the white sheets. I laid down completely relaxed, covering half of my face with the console. I really love this carefree perspective; it perfectly fits the weekend vibe of lying flat at home. The window-side scene is also one I'm very satisfied with. I bought tall canned drinks, leaned back on a white single armchair, with green plants outside the window and natural window light behind me. In one shot, I was just stretching, with my legs spread out and hands raised high, sinking into the sofa. I feel this movement captured that uninterrupted, relaxing holiday vibe perfectly.

In terms of props, besides the console, various snacks were essential. Placing the Lay's potato chips and cola bottles casually by my side, and taking some half-body close-ups with a round potato chip hanging from my mouth, the gluttonous and lazy vibe was instantly dialed up. The wig had a very good texture. Although it was slightly fluffy, under the warm tone of the indoor natural light, it actually looked very soft.

This shoot was made possible thanks to photographer @ShiPiPiXiaoMao (湿屁屁小猫). After we met in Chongqing and communicated, we quickly adjusted the shoot plan, changing from a large outdoor scene to an indoor one. The process was actually very seamless. The guesthouse had great lighting; we didn't need a flash, relying solely on the natural light from the window to shoot a very translucent feel. Shooting this pajama style in the bedroom didn't require harsh lighting; instead, soft diffuse reflection made the subject look very gentle and the skin tone more natural.

After shooting this set of photos, I realized that you don't necessarily need to wear glorious armor or delicate dresses. This kind of outfit and setup, which is close to real life and filled with anime-style "Otaku" elements, actually makes it easier to capture relaxed and joyful emotions. Especially for a character like Umaru, her greatest charm lies in her attitude of enjoying life anytime and anywhere, and I feel these photos captured about seventy to eighty percent of that atmosphere. Although we didn't get to shoot the swimwear this time, getting such a casual and fun set of photos is absolutely worth it. Every time I organize these photos, I can recall that cozy time blowing the A/C and drinking soda in the Chongqing guesthouse.
