I cosplayed Tangtang from NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE at the Huizhou Little Bee Comic Convention this time. Leading up to the con, I did plenty of prep work. Tangtang has such an iconic, recognizable character design; her red-and-black palette and unmistakable Jirai Kei aesthetic demanded meticulous polishing across both cosmetics and tailoring. For the wig, I razor-trimmed and heat-set dense, blunt-cut bangs with defined side-locks flowing into Twintails, tying delicate red satin ribbons on either side of the crown. The yellow cross emblem centered directly on my forehead was drawn stroke by stroke using a yellow eyeliner pencil layered with eyeshadow. To channel her temperament, I wore blue contact lenses and blended reddish-brown eyeshadow extensively around the eye contours, accentuating that uniquely fragile, subtly yandere aura. Crimson lipstick and matching red nail polish were indispensable finishing touches.
On the wardrobe front, I layered a ruffled flutter-sleeve white blouse under a red vest, paired with a black pinafore suspender skirt. The black ribbon bow across the chest and the polished gold buckle along the waist sash added crisp visual depth. The skirt hem featured embroidered golden hearts and bows, faithfully matching canon details. Grounding the look with chunky black platform boots completed the ensemble with high fidelity.
The energy across the convention floor was electric. Attendees at the Huizhou Little Bee Comic Convention were overwhelmingly enthusiastic; although the exhibition hall was somewhat stuffy, everyone's passion remained at an all-time high. When framing these Convention photos, I communicated extensively with the photographer to test varied poses and micro-expressions, aiming to embody Tangtang's signature high-strung, whimsical, and subtly rebellious streaming persona. We tried postures like seiza-kneeling atop a blue-tinted carpet while holding my smartphone as if livestreaming selfies, sticking out my tongue, flashing peace signs, or clenching fists into playful kitten paws. In front of the camera, I kept my gaze drifting, glazed, or locked in an intense deadpan stare into the lens, locking in those idiosyncratic emotional textures.
These nine frames document a tapestry of diverse moments. The selfie-perspective shots feel exceptionally immersive, as if genuinely broadcasting live to online followers. Holding the kneeling seiza stance grew physically tiring, but sustaining it for long stretches was essential to capture flattering skirt gathers and leg contours. The greatest joy of cosplaying at conventions is encountering fellow fans, aligning angles and coordinating shots together before the lens. Even though trekking in heavy platform boots all day was exhausting and the wig needed constant combing against stray drafts, seeing how well the convention photos turned out made every ounce of effort worthwhile. I look forward to meeting everyone at future conventions in even better form!
