[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] The Carefree Spirit of Touhou Project: Convention Photo Record

The convention photos for this \"Carefree Eye of Love\" set are finally sorted out. This time at the Xiamen Ziyu Convention, we found a slightly less crowded spot and worked together with photographer @kuku to complete this record.

This shoot features Komeiji Koishi from Touhou Project, with the overall styling incorporating some Touhou fanon elements toward a fairy-tale, plant-themed direction. I chose a short blue-green wig, paired with green contact lenses, and the on-camera effect was even more vibrant than expected. The headwear is a wide-brimmed bonnet with a black base and yellow lace trim, made of matte micro-velvet, which looks very substantial. My favorite part of the upper body is the large lantern sleeves. I specifically chose off-white jacquard fabric with a drop-shoulder design, and the cuffs are finished with huge black ruffles and green lace trim, which allowed a lot of room for arm movement and looked very flowing during large arm-lifting gestures.

The color scheme of the dress is mainly yellow, green, black, and white. After tightening the corset, the yellow-green pleated petticoat naturally flared out, with small irregular light blue 3D flowers scattered across the skirt surface. This outfit has a ton of lace trim and multiple layers of undergarments and overlays. The shiny purplish-red orb on the chest is directly fixed to the front, surrounded by clusters of dark pink and purple silk flowers, giving it a real forest elf texture. As for the props, the heart-shaped wreath wrapped with vines and small colorful flowers is the soul of this shoot. Holding it up in the air or letting the vines drape down naturally added geometric lines and pops of color to the frame.

There were actually quite a few minor episodes during the shoot. The biggest challenge with convention photos is capturing the moment, because visitors occasionally walk by in the background, or the lighting changes slightly if the reflector umbrella moves a bit. To capture that light, airy, and slightly playful look, I actually tried the poses of lifting one leg and spreading my arms wide repeatedly. Balancing my center of gravity while maintaining my smile and facial expressions, and making sure the sleeves didn't get tangled in the props, was incredibly exhausting. But looking back at the raw photos, the results were still very ideal.

Although the lighting at the venue that day was quite complex, the photographer made great use of the existing overhead lights and the reflection of the black umbrella to process the 3D folds of the clothes and the sheen of the fabric with great depth. There was no over-editing, preserving the lively and bustling atmosphere of the convention. Walking around or going to the restroom in an outfit with wide sleeves and trailing elements makes it easy to trip, but for the final look, it was all worth it. As a Touhou fanon design, I wanted to maximize the garment's detail while preserving the character's original essence. The overall style of this set is on the lively side, which is exactly the free-spirited vibe of this character that I wanted to express. These convention photos recorded my genuine state that day, and I am so happy to share this finished set with everyone.
