From the initial makeup test to the actual shoot, this set of photos for Dorothy's Pearl of Peach Blossom cheongsam look can be considered the one I've put the most effort into recently. The design of the dress combines the stand-up collar of a traditional Chinese cheongsam with Western ruffles and puff sleeves, featuring very exquisite floral embroidery on the neckline and cuffs. Paired with customized silver stiletto heels and white lace over-the-knee socks, the overall look finds a perfect balance between ethereal elegance and playfulness. The small white flowers dotting the hair accessories and the way the bun is styled give the long pink hair more layers and detail.
During the shoot, two main props were used: a translucent lace parasol and a round fan. When holding the umbrella, the center of gravity needed to be stable, and special attention had to be paid to the angle of the ribs so that the studio lights could penetrate the lace and hit the fabric. Holding the fan was a bit more relaxed; capturing the dynamic nuances of sitting and crouching postures was key, as it required expressing both the character's sense of ease and elegance. For this studio shoot, a solid pink background was chosen, creating an extension within the same color scheme as the pink wig. With the help of the light and dark variations in lighting setup, the character beautifully stands out from the background.
Previously, when this set of photos was previewed as small thumbnails, it was mistaken by some friends for an AI-generated work. In fact, if you zoom in to see the stitching details of the clothes, the edges of the wig strands, and the reflective texture on the surface of the shoes as the light shifts, it all possesses a genuine photographic negative quality. Although the shooting process heavily tested physical strength and lower back endurance, the clean and translucent feel presented in the final photos made it completely worth it. This kind of styling that combines Chinese traditional elements with anime settings indeed easily creates an unrealistic, dreamy vibe under studio light and shadow, but the texture is absolutely real in this GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE creation.
