Just in time for Kokomi's birthday (Happy Birthday Kokomi!), I'm finally posting this long-stored Kokomi bunny photoshoot. From planning to execution, this look took about two months, with three rounds of adjustments to costume details. I'm personally very satisfied with the final result.
First, let's talk about the costume. This bunny ear style outfit isn't a conventional lolita dress; instead, it incorporates Kokomi's signature blue and white palette with deep blue bows and a neck choker. The off-shoulder design of the top had me agonizing for a long time—balancing a fluffy volume without looking bulky. In the end, I chose double-layer ruffles reinforced with inner lining. The multi-tiered skirt fans out naturally when walking, which, paired with white over-the-knee stockings and chunky-heeled leather shoes, visually elongates the leg lines. I must highlight the lace-up bows on the shoes, which were hand-sewn to echo the details on the choker and gloves. The wig features a light pink to pale blue gradient styled into soft curls; securing the bunny ears required anchoring the wig roots with three clips during shooting to prevent them from tilting.
Scene construction was actually the most demanding part of this shoot. The photo studio utilized extensive mirror reflectors, and the floor was lined with high-reflectivity film to create reflections reminiscent of standing on water or ice. Regarding props, besides blue hydrangeas and clear crystal blocks, we specially customized several glowing jellyfish and a water ring device tailored around a jellyfish theme. The water ring was used for the dynamic motion effect in Figure 1; two assistants held a clear acrylic ring lit with cool blue light, while fish particle effects were added in post-processing. During shooting, my assistant and I tried over a dozen takes before capturing that mid-air, graceful stretch.
The umbrella in Figure 2 features a vintage wooden frame with white lace edging and tassels sewn on the canopy; it feels comfortable to hold, but needed to face the light source directly when opened to achieve a translucent texture. The silver metal box in Figure 3 was a last-minute find that worked perfectly for a low-angle shot when sitting down; overhead intense light combined with dry ice fog infused the scene with a deep-sea sanctuary feel. The half-body close-up in Figure 4 focused on highlighting makeup and expression: lake-blue contact lenses, soft pink eyeshadow with glitters, and a magenta-toned lipstick that harmonizes with the hair color. The hand-held jellyfish wand acted as a crucial fill light prop, housing warm LEDs inside to create a striking warm-vs-cool color contrast against the surrounding blue light.
As for the shooting process, it was more exhausting than anticipated. Because the slippery floor made standing in high heels difficult for long periods, I practiced the single-leg lift pose in Figure 2 for nearly half an hour just to stabilize my center of gravity while controlling my facial expression. The airborne movement in Figure 1 utilized a spring mini-trampoline; the photographer snapped the shutter at the exact right instant, allowing trampoline traces to be removed in post-processing while keeping the dynamic energy of the water ring and fish shoal. During retouching, color temperature and highlights were adjusted—shifting blue tones slightly toward cyan to prevent a frigid palette while enhancing skin translucency. The lighting scheme for this shoot comprised a key light plus dual side-backlights casting beautiful rim lights along hair strands and skirt borders, making the whole silhouette appear faintly glowing.
Although studio temperatures were low that day, all the physical effort still worked up a sweat, but seeing the final renders made every bit of hardship worthwhile. Departing from Kokomi's conventional priestess attire, this look recombined bunny ears and jellyfish elements into a unique commemoration for both myself and the character from Genshin Impact. Being able to release this on her birthday feels like fulfilling a special goal. Next time, I hope to attempt other alternate styles, perhaps pushing marine elements even further.
