[Theresa Cosplay] When the Photographer Stands on the Fifth Floor, I Just Lie Down Like This in the Sea of Flowers

When the photographer stands five stories high to shoot Theresa, you get a feeling of being completely enveloped by a blooming sea of flowers. This was actually a very bold attempt during our shoot, abandoning conventional eye-level angles and focusing, adopting direct extreme overhead shooting instead, using tree foliage as a natural frame while lying on the ground looking small yet embraced by nature.

The most interesting part of this shoot was definitely the process of finding our positions. My partner for this session was Xiaolvbaobao; one of us was on the fifth-floor rooftop while the other was down on the grass, communicating positions entirely through mobile messages. Shouting back and forth to find spots while comparing real-time maps with flower patch locations felt like playing a real-life treasure hunt using modern technology. Although this "remote navigation" had its twists and turns, it added a very special sense of participation to the shoot.

For this perspective, I sat directly on the grass carpeted with fallen blossoms. This Theresa Cosplay outfit featuring a black top and large white skirt works wonderfully in night scenes, especially when lying down where the skirt spreads out like a massive flower, echoing visually with the flower petals on the ground and my pale-white hair color. The moment my black leather shoes stepped into the mud, I knew that although this heavy gear was cumbersome to put on and take off, photographing it would yield a strong sense of substance.

Night shooting demands extremely high control over light and shadow. To highlight the atmosphere of being surrounded by a sea of flowers, the photographer used an external flash for high-contrast lighting. The strong light illuminated my white hair and skirt, making them appear exceptionally translucent against the dim, cool-green grassy background. Because cool-toned lighting was used, the overall frame lacked the warm coziness of daytime, presenting instead a serene and mysterious vibe of a midnight secret realm.

While organizing photos, I developed an exceptional partiality for that single moment with closed eyes. At the time, I might have been blinded by the flash or simply relaxed so completely while lying flat that I inadvertently closed my eyes. But looking at the final render, this accidental candid close-eyed moment didn't look like a mistake; instead, it resembled a playful wink at the camera, adding a touch of vivid vitality to the otherwise serene and steady frame. I usually tend to control my expressions instinctively when taking photos, but this closed-eye picture completely stripped away that rigid pose tension.

Of course, this tricky overhead angle also brought considerable difficulty. The photographer on the fifth floor had to constantly adjust camera positions or even lean half his body out to find the perfect framing crop, while separated by floors and flower branches, we could only communicate aperture settings and picture composition via mobile phones, shouts, and hand gestures. That nervous tension of coordination between high altitude and ground turned out to be the most precious fragment of memory from this character portrayal.

This unconventional shooting angle, coupled with night flash assistance, achieved a wonderful visual fusion between the sea of flowers and the subject. Relying less on heavy post-processing atmosphere, it achieved this dreamy feel largely through lighting angles and composition. Being able to capture such a piece with cool floral vibes and relaxed emotion was truly thanks to the positioning coordination with the photographer and Xiaolvbaobao beforehand and afterward. This photo set didn't force any poses, capturing instead the most natural moment of cosplay.

If there are similar natural settings in the future, maybe I'll take this outfit outdoors for another set. But today's original phone snapshot has already become my favorite photo from this shoot, genuinely recording my current understanding and love for this character.
