Just in time for the release of this brand-new set of photos, this time I shot "Cyrene" from Honkai: Star Rail. When seeing the finished photos, it really felt like all the hard work in the early preparation was worth it.
Regarding this costume, a lot of thought was actually put into its making and early-stage coordination. The main color tones of the outfit are white, pink, and purple. To reflect that dreamy and lightweight feel, gradient fabric with a pearlescent texture was deliberately chosen. The three-dimensional embossed patterns on the bodice and the multi-layered ruffles below the skirt both required hand-adjusting the pattern little by little to present a fluffy, ethereal effect in front of the lens. Meanwhile, those blue-and-pink small flower decorations on the side of the waist added some eye-catching little details to the solid-colored clothing.
The wig is the highlight of today's styling; the gradient processing from solid pink to light purple heavily tests the stylist's patience. To make the wig's layering closer to the character's design, the bangs and sideburns were carefully trimmed, paired with light purple-gray colored contact lenses. In terms of overall makeup, deep eye shadow was minimized as much as possible to emphasize skin transparency, so it could match the overall transparent Dreamy outfit style.
The partner for this shoot also specially prepared a very faithful long bow prop. The design of this bow is very vibrant, featuring a silver-white curved bow body paired with purple and pink gradient paint, along with a bright pink bowstring. The moment I held the bow in my hand, I immediately felt a sense of immersion into the character. For the previous sets of photos, I held bouquets, but when shooting these bow-and-arrow shots, I tried a bow-drawing pose. Although this posture requires relatively high muscle control in the shoulders and arms, adjusting the angles a few times was necessary to restore the character's firm yet gentle temperament.
Let's chat about some fun anecdotes from the shooting scene. The studio was decorated with many white pillars, wisteria flowers, and gold frames, along with a large amount of hanging flower vines, making the overall environment look very ethereal. However, to ensure a high-exposure, high-brightness visual effect, the studio lighting was extremely strong. With several large overhead lights shining down, coupled with wearing slightly heavy multi-layered skirt hems, staying in the studio for a long time made it quite easy to sweat. Fortunately, the photographer was extremely patient, constantly helping to adjust the lighting angles so that neither the props nor the character over-reflected under the soft light, preserving the original pearlescent texture of the clothing material.
Let's talk about some deeper feelings. "My tomorrow is called yesterday, because the world was gentle to me, and so I grew into a gentle appearance." This quote is the key to my understanding of this photo set. This character is not just a simple, fragile vase; she has her own beliefs and attitudes. While trying to restore her, I was also thinking about how to convey this quiet yet powerful tenderness through a static frame.
As a cosplayer, every serious photo release is both an account to one's own work and a tribute to the original character. The overall effect of this release reached my expected state; whether it is the clothing material, the makeup and hair restoration, or the suitability of the set, it can be considered a quite satisfying cosplay photography experience.
