[Varesa Cosplay & Xilonen cosplay] Genshin Impact: Wild Outdoor Exploration in Natlan

"Will anyone still play Genshin Impact after reaching Natlan?" This might be a joke many veteran players made when transitioning from Fontaine to Natlan. But when I actually stood in this sun-drenched outdoor location filled with tropical vibes, looking at the overgrown weeds, weathered wooden fences, and hanging vines on the stone walls, the wildness and vitality unique to Genshin Impact's Natlan instantly came to life. My partner and I finally synced our schedules to bring Varesa Cosplay and Xilonen cosplay to life, capturing a large set of photos depicting daily Natlan life.

Let's talk about the characters first. I cosplayed Varesa, while my partner played Xilonen. Because we both love the free-spirited tribal style of Natlan, we put a lot of effort into tailoring and coordinating these outfits. Varesa's costume design includes plenty of plush elements and a blue-green color palette, especially those two huge bull-like horn headpieces, which took immense effort to balance weight and 3D structure. To complement the character, I specifically paired the outfit with color-blocked high leg warmers featuring heart patterns and a red-and-blue sporty skirt. It not only elongated the legs visually, but the vivid color contrast under the outdoor sunlight was also exceptionally photogenic.

My partner's Xilonen cosplay look was equally stunning. The fluffy animal ears, the long platinum-to-orange gradient hair, and the green colored contact lenses she wore perfectly captured the sharp demeanor of a wild feline. She wore a blue-and-white cropped top with blue denim shorts, styled with black straps featuring orange trims on the outside, and finished with orange diamond graffiti details along the side of her thighs. This combination of athletic flair and beast-folk elements effortlessly delivered blockbuster-worthy shots in front of the fence backdrop.

The shooting process on location was quite fun. We brought several small props to enrich the frame. Among them, a small brown beast-like plush doll became our best companion—sometimes placed on the wooden boardwalk, sometimes "standing" beside a shovel. There was also a huge green mushroom prop which, although a bit whimsical, created a wonderfully wild fairy-tale charm against the rugged Natlan background. The setting our photographer found was tailor-made for Genshin Impact's Natlan theme, complete with white weathered wooden fences, mottled wooden decking, and a stone wall covered in green ivy.

Honestly, outdoor cosplay photography really tests your physical endurance and patience. The sun was blazing that day. Although wearing outfits with higher skin exposure felt cool at times, we constantly had to mind sun protection and makeup touch-ups. Especially when shooting the duo photo holding the black shovel, we moved back and forth between the dirt pit and the wooden walkway multiple times to find the optimal positioning. But that is probably the true fun of cosplay—collaborating and "tormenting" each other with your partner just to capture that perfect angle. In the end, seeing the final photos made every bit of hard work worthwhile.

The photographer's composition and candid capture skills were truly top-notch. For instance, in the duo shots, the atmosphere of Varesa and Xilonen fighting side by side with a playful best-friend dynamic was captured effortlessly. In the solo close-ups, the texture of light and shadow falling on the wigs and plush props was rendered beautifully. For this Natlan life adventure, the costume details, the dynamic tension of outdoor posing, and the overall color grading all exceeded my expectations. Without feeling stiff or overly posed, it felt more like two characters genuinely journeying together across the terrain of Natlan and exploring the unknown. That immersive atmosphere is exactly what I strive to convey most through cosplay.
