[Wang Guiren Cosplay] Stepping into Old Dreams: Interpreting Classical Charm in Honkai: Star Rail

Today's client photos feature the character Wang Guiren from Honkai: Star Rail. When preparing for this work, what I wanted to capture most was that atmospheric blend of vicissitudes and detachment—the feeling of "past dreams of yesterday are all gone." The production team selected a real-scene venue with deep traditional Chinese heritage, using wooden window lattices, hanging calligraphy scrolls, and warm yellow standing paper lanterns to construct the entire frame.

Let's talk about the costume design first; its layering is rich and complex. Deep purple-gray serves as the main color, paired with wide, sweeping sleeves, featuring red piping at the lapels and intricate gold jacquard patterns. Most special is the off-shoulder design, combined with sheer pink gauze sleevelets layered over the wrists, giving the overall look a touch of youthful agility amidst dignified Traditional style cosplay. The belt features a wide golden plate buckle heavily decorated with three-dimensional metallic flowers; its drape is maximized, showing wonderful light-and-shadow texture under warm lighting.

Now for some small styling details: the hair ends feature a reddish-brown gradient, which, paired with light green contact lenses, instantly gives her eyes a story-filled gaze. Although the fluffy Chinese style animal ears and tail are plush material, golden small metal ornaments were added at the base of the ears as a finishing touch. When working on this makeup and styling, the makeup artist and I discussed at length, wanting to retain the lively wildness of a beast-demon while reflecting her calm detachment after experiencing all things in the world.

If asked which photo I love most for the cover, my top choice is the second one. On one hand, the composition sits right at the center of the frame, with very harmonious figure proportions; on the other hand, it masters the balance of showing sensuality. Seated on a wooden bench, crossing legs paired with glossy black red-bottomed high heels elongates the leg lines. Combined with the lazy demeanor of closed eyes, plus the contrast formed by sheer pink sleevelets and wide sleeves, the costume's premium feel and the character's relaxed state are fully expressed in this single shot. Moreover, there are no distracting watermark texts in the photo, and the subject doesn't touch the borders.

Of course, I also really love the standing pose holding the folding fan in the third photo. Once the red, white, and gold folding fan opens up, paired with the red plush tail rising behind, the visual tension is immense, capturing Wang Guiren's carefree, unbound nature. The first close-up with a wooden pick in her mouth is even more playful, with eyes gazing straight into the camera, making it highly recognizable.

Regarding the light and shadow in this Cosplay photography shoot, we specifically chose side-backlighting paired with indoor warm yellow light sources. This lighting outlines the reflective texture of the costume fabric without losing detail in background wooden windows and calligraphy scrolls; the overall color tone is steady without being dull, creating a feeling like being inside old memories. Additionally, since the wide sleeves are flowing and airy, shooting required not only adjusting standing poses, but also constantly paying attention to garment movement caused by wind or actions, striving to present natural drape and dynamic beauty lifted by wind in skirt hems and cuffs.

This work took a lot of heart from early character selection and makeup testing, to capturing light and camera angles on shoot day, through post-processing fine-tuning. I hope this photo set allows everyone to see a Wang Guiren infused with retro fantasy color while retaining her own unique aura.
