For this Ibuki cosplay photoshoot in a swimsuit look, the focus was using high-key studio lighting to restore the character's pure yet slightly playful feel. The entire look was inspired by Ibuki's swimsuit outfit in Azur Lane, combining blue hair and dual horns with a white off-the-shoulder crop top and a semi-transparent sheer tulle skirt for a super lightweight visual effect.

Regarding hair and makeup, blue-black long straight hair is the character's signature feature, so I spent quite a bit of time styling the wig to keep the hair strands sleek and smooth. The dark horn accessories atop the head paired with blunt bangs precisely captured the character's temperament. The white ribbon choker around the neck also enhanced the delicate feel of the styling. Material selection for the costume was key—lace sleeves on the top and the drape of the sheer tulle both needed to show airy flowiness in both static and dynamic poses. The long sheer skirt actually posed quite a test for positioning during Cosplay photography because the fabric was so lightweight that even subtle drafts or movements disrupted its drape, requiring long adjustments to the folds and direction in studio.

The photoshoot process was very enjoyable, and we designed two main sets of compositions. The first was standing poses—standing on a round platform showcased the overall tailoring of the outfit better, from off-the-shoulder details to waistline structure at a glance. The second was sitting poses incorporating cloud-shaped cotton props, a composition that better conveyed an ethereal, dreamy ambiance for a Swimsuit photo. While shooting seated poses, going barefoot was actually a deliberate choice—removing redundant footwear made the overall picture feel purer and better suited the summer swimsuit's refreshing vibe. We used a seamless white studio backdrop paired with very even soft lighting; this illumination approach suited the white tulle fabric perfectly, maximizing its translucent, airy quality.

Honestly, every time I shoot Anime cosplay I want to push my limits, so I tried some more casual and relaxed body postures this time. Beyond showcasing the outfit, I hoped to convey the character's lazy, breezy summer mood. Although the outfit for this shoot was relatively minimalist, simpler clothes test expressiveness even more, so I communicated heavily with the photographer about angles and eye contact during the shoot. If you want to try a similar style of cosplay, pay extra attention to contrast in fabric thickness and accessory accents. While the lower tulle skirt is gorgeous, it's easy to trip over when walking, so stay safe during outdoor or studio shoots!

Overall, this photoshoot for Azur Lane Ibuki's swimsuit was a great attempt, and the cooling sensation delivered on camera by this white swimsuit look was very direct. Hopefully these tips on makeup, hair, and shooting angles bring helpful reference for everyone who loves this look!
