Cosplaying Venti from Genshin Impact and getting geared up in this mint-green Plush coat and wig was actually way more grueling than imagined. The caption in the picture is so accurate: "So tired... didn't do anything, but thanks for the hard work anyway!"
For this Blue-black twin-tails wig, to capture that light, breezy, and lively feel of Venti in Genshin Impact, smoothing out the strands, trimming the bangs, and setting the style took over an hour alone. The hair flow had to evoke a wind-swept messiness, requiring patient styling with hairspray to build layers and ensure a seamless blend between the blue and black tones. Wearing the wig cap for so long pinched my temples, and the stuffiness skyrocketed as the shoot went on.
The mint-green Plush coat looks soft and cozy, but to pull off the pose holding down the hood brim, I had to grip the edge firmly and hold my arm angle to keep the coat from slipping or forming awkward creases. Once the indoor studio lights turned on, my body temperature rose fast. Because I had my eyes closed for the shot, the eyeliner was drawn slightly thicker with clean eyeshadow blending. To express that relaxed, carefree demeanor, I practiced smiling with closed eyes multiple times to ensure my facial muscles weren't stiff.
The background is my glass display cabinet at home filled with colorful figures. Even though it's just the background, I adjusted the shooting angle several times to prevent reflections from ruining the shot. It's often these tiny details that determine an image's quality.
As I shot, I kept thinking this is just the Casual cosplay routine—a dual drain of physical and mental energy. Sometimes you're barely moving, but endlessly adjusting for an expression or an angle leaves your neck and shoulders aching afterwards. Plus, after shooting comes the most troublesome part: taking off heavy eye makeup, removing the thick wig, and washing and drying the wig, which is a massive project in itself.
Yet, seeing that lazy, idle state in the photos made me feel like the wind-like essence was captured. Though the process was exhausting, it gave me a deep appreciation for the character's carefree roaming and occasional pauses to rest. The main goal today was to capture that slice-of-life warmth through the closed-eye expression and this outfit. Without lavish sets, this shoot embraced a casual, cozy vibe; that feeling of being drained despite seemingly doing nothing was another fun takeaway from this character. Finally, giving myself a break to rest is what truly matters.
