Holding this substantial purple-pink gradient scythe and stepping into this purple night view of flower sea, the moment the night breeze brushed through the tips of my hair, I truly felt as if I had briefly walked into her world.
A lot of details were fine-tuned for the makeup and styling this time. Fine glitter was intentionally sprayed onto the light purple long hair, which, combined with the high-intensity fill lights at night, refracted scattered dreamy halos across the hair strands. The crown of thorns and flowers on my head was repositioned by hand to guarantee it tightly fitted the contour of my head, and the elf ears props were also glued exceptionally securely today, without any slipping when switching poses, saving us a lot of re-shooting time.
I must also mention this massive long-handled scythe. It is truly heavy; holding it up with a single hand during the shoot while simultaneously adjusting the angle of my gaze and keeping the shoulder and neck lines extended was indeed a massive test of stamina and core strength. Yet seeing the final texture in the finished photos made me feel that every drop of sweat was worth it. The gradient on the blade from silver-white to pale pink, traced by the cool light of the flash, presented a gleam that was both sharp and soft, perfectly matching the dark night atmosphere.
The backless cut of the costume combined with the deep purple criss-cross straps and long gloves made the overall posture appear very slender. Mr. Dabing's lighting setup this time was highly sophisticated; in front of the completely pitch-black outdoor background, the hard light from the front-side cleanly and sharply outlined the foreground flower sea and the character's silhouette without any extra cluttered reflections, allowing the purple tones to present a premium and deep texture. This kind of high-contrast night lighting setup creates a much stronger sense of serenity and mystery than daytime shooting.
The shooting location was actually not very comfortable; the dirt paths in the flower field were uneven, and there were plenty of bugs at night. To find the exact angles we wanted, we fumbled through the dim light to adjust our standing positions and camera angles, almost stepping deep into the flower bushes several times. Yet every time I saw those story-filled frames of light and shadow in the camera playback, I felt all the hardships were completely worth it. This character naturally carries a compassionate and cool temperament, and I hoped to restore that otherworldly serenity in front of the lens.
Bringing along these photos this time counts as completing a reunion in an imaging sense on a distant shore. I am incredibly fortunate to have encountered such a perfectly fitting night scene and flower field environment. Special thanks to Mr. Dabing for his patient guidance during the shoot, offering wonderful suggestions from expressions down to body movements. This finished set of cosplay photography doesn't rely on too many complex post-processing effects, relying entirely on on-site lighting and texture. I hope this clean yet slightly mysterious effect can convey the atmosphere this character deserves.
