Shooting this Takanashi Rikka cosplay kimono look was finally completed today. Let's start with the outfit coordination. The main piece is a kimono cut featuring a patchwork of deep purple and bright pink, paired with a white crossover collar underneath and a multi-layered ruffled white hem. The waist features a wide sash woven in orange, yellow, and cyan, creating a vivid color palette. A small blue pouch with polka dot patterns hangs at the waist, accompanied by a string of red bead chains around the neck—all accessories meticulously recreated according to the character's original design. For footwear, pairing Purple over-the-knee socks with traditional wooden geta clogs visually elongated leg proportions, photographing exceptionally well in full-body shots.
For hair and makeup, a deep purple wig with blunt bangs was styled with a red rose and yellow tassels on the left side. The most striking highlight is the Heterochromia: one eye blue and the other golden yellow. Wearing lenses for Heterochromia truly tests eye tolerance, and pairing them with a subtle reddish halo around the eyes captured the character's distinctive aura beautifully. A red oiled paper umbrella printed with white blossoms was prepared as a prop; raising the umbrella allowed the vibrant red canopy to complement the purple-and-pink attire, yielding rich color saturation.
The shoot was split into several segments. The outdoor setting featured a paved plaza with steps and trees as backdrops for full-body standing shots, where the red umbrella and clean leg lines brought strong visual tension. The indoor portion focused primarily on intimate close-ups, with a friend assisting in interactive poses—such as head pats or cheek pokes—to make the images feel more dynamic. Indoors, we also utilized grey tiled walls and blue horizontal bars for mirror selfies, striving to capture diverse angles during the session.
Overall, this series not only faithfully recreates the character's design but also incorporates modified Japanese aesthetics. From the drape of the fabric to accessory details and eye makeup adjustments, every element strove to mirror the character's personality. Walking all day in geta clogs and long socks left my feet rather tired, but seeing the final results made all these detailed efforts worthwhile. When shooting this 2D-style Kimono cosplay, fidelity is undeniably crucial, but considering how to express that specific temperament through posing and camera presence is something to contemplate before every shoot. Through this photo set, her unique charm was brought to life completely.
