[Takanashi Rikka cosplay] The chunibyo girl in a rose dress

The final photos of this rose dress turned out to be much more textured than I expected. Shooting in it on the outdoor lawn, my overall state was perfectly driven by the outfit's atmosphere.

Let's start with the design details of this costume. The upper body features a large area of black fabric, but a ring of light blue-green pleated ruffles is spliced at the neckline. This contrasting color treatment prevents the overall look from being too oppressive. The chest and abdomen area adopts a vintage corset style, with a white cross-lace design on the black base fabric, which visually tightens the waistline beautifully. A red fabric rose decorates the exact center, serving as the finishing touch of the top and forming a wonderful color clash with the blue-green around the neckline.

The head styling was also a top priority. This time, I wore a purplish-black short wig, intentionally smoothing out any frizz while ensuring that her iconic sticking-up ahoge stood up firmly and three-dimensionally. The cross eyepatch over my right eye is highly accurate, and the dangling red bead strings on it offer great reflections. Combined with the blue colored contacts I wore, it fits perfectly with the character's chunibyo yet focused gaze. A striking ruby is embedded right in the center of the black choker around my neck, visually echoing the eyepatch decoration from top to bottom. It truly captures the essence of a beautiful girl with an eyepatch.

The hand details are an even more unique aspect of this look. My right hand wears a pure black long glove that contours to the arm's curves, while my left hand is wrapped layer by layer with white medical bandages from the wrist to the middle of the forearm, creating a strong visual black-and-white contrast on my arms. The skirt hem features a multi-layered ruffle stack design, with deep purple pleated fabric on the outside, revealing the black and blue-green underskirt inside for a highly rich sense of layering. The black tights on the lower body bear a unique diamond mesh pattern, and paired with the black patent leather Mary Janes on my feet, the dark girl style is nailed down perfectly for this gothic dress.

On the day of the shoot, I brought a large umbrella—pink inside and black outside—as an important shooting prop. The sunlight was excellent that day, with a background of green grass, lush trees, and a rusty red metal arched flower stand on the left. This natural outdoor environment is perfect for this gothic dress; the texture of the natural light hitting the skirt surface and tights is very soft, unlike the harshness of studio shoots. In the first image, I was mostly sitting upright, but I actually prefer the feeling of the second image. In the second photo, I turned slightly sideways, with my legs extending naturally and the fingers of my left hand gently resting against one side of my cheek, making the posture much more relaxed. The photographer perfectly captured the dense green tree background behind me, with sporadic pink flowers embellishing the frame, making the overall atmosphere appear both bright and a bit mysterious.

During post-processing, I spent quite a bit of time fine-tuning the details. When doing a cosplay of Rikka, I always habitually touch up the photos to make myself look more vivid and cute, but without losing the exquisite quality of the costume itself. I intentionally preserved the fabric textures and stitching lines of the clothing while enhancing the transparency of the hair color. The highlights in the background were darkened slightly to make the overall exposure more even, preventing overexposed areas from erasing details. While brightening the shadows, I also slightly softened the contour edges of the face and arms to make the skin tone look softer and more natural.

In truth, every time I wear a dress with multiple straps and ruffle elements for an outdoor shoot, it tests both physical stamina and patience. But sitting on this outdoor grass, caressed by the warm sunlight and breeze, and holding up this umbrella, the feeling of immersing myself into the character's atmosphere instantly comes out. Blending the chunibyo yet cute temperament with this gothic style rose dress, I feel that the overall state this time—from makeup and styling to shooting and post-processing—turned out quite satisfying. I hope this authentic texture can convey the dedication behind my styling for this anime cosplay project.
