The theme of this shoot was crystal clear: Sunohara Kokona from Blue Archive. Before receiving this costume, I referenced numerous in-game illustrations and chibi designs, aiming to authentically capture her awkward yet sincere cuteness through this live shoot.
Regarding hair and makeup, first came the silver-white wig. To give it natural depth and layers, I carefully combed through the hair flow—especially the distinctive black crescent hair clip on the bangs, an iconic feature distinguishing it from generic silver wigs. Along both ears, I kept slightly curled side bangs that flatter the face shape nicely. Paired with the fluffy beast ear props on top, I paid close attention to their angle when securing them, giving the ears a gentle flare outward so they look remarkably lively from a high-angle perspective, enhancing the character's dynamic charm with the Silver hair beast ears aesthetic. For eye makeup, I selected custom reddish-brown contact lenses that not only matched the character's eye color faithfully, but also gave my gaze a gentler warmth.
For the costume styling, this look primarily features black, white, and blue, accented with touches of red. The black pinstriped cropped jacket with a drop-shoulder cut nicely reveals the neck and shoulder lines, preventing the loose sleeves from looking bulky. Botanical patterns are printed along the cuffs and hemline, while the decorative tassels hanging below the garment feature subtle light-blue and white pattern details. I particularly love the thin red knot and dangling red tassels at the collar—these small details give the large blocks of black visual breathing room. Furthermore, the blue suspender belt at the waist and the small purple charm on the side serve as key accessories to enrich color layering. For the lower body, I paired black ankle socks with chunky platform sneakers, where the black-and-white contrast anchored my standing center of gravity securely.
For the shoot, I deliberately chose this indoor studio with Chinese wooden lattice screens and greenery. Initially, I worried whether such a setting might clash with the character, but during the actual session, the vintage wood-toned flooring and screens—paired with bright high-key lighting—made the visual contrast between the silver-white hair and black-and-white outfit pop even more, giving the frame an exceptionally clean and crisp look.
In terms of camera language, I deliberately chose a high-angle perspective looking down. While this angle tends to diminish height, it is ideal for emphasizing the character's inherent youthfulness and petite delicacy. In posing design, instead of dramatic motion poses, I opted for poised static poses truer to her temperament.
For instance, in Photo 1, I put my hands behind my back with a slight downward head tilt while looking straight into the lens, capturing her slightly reserved yet earnest demeanor. In Photo 2, I leaned slightly forward, shifting my center of gravity closer to create an intimate sense of leaning in to inspect something. Photo 3 featured a side-angled finger-heart gesture, injecting lively playfulness into the scene. In Photo 4, I rested both fists against my chin with a gentle head tilt, looking especially obedient and sweet.
Reflecting on the shoot, I'm quite satisfied with the high-angle perspective results. For lighting, we prioritized soft diffused light to prevent harsh facial shadows and keep the complexion translucent and natural. Combining this styling and set faithfully recreates the petite cuteness of Blue Archive's Sunohara Kokona while preserving the refined texture unique to portrait photography, feeling like bringing a 2D Anime girl setting into a vibrant 3D Cosplay photoshoot.
