Shooting Xiao Qiao's Manga Sorceress set on September 22nd in a white studio can be summed up as a bittersweet, thoroughly exhausting yet rewarding journey.

This coordinate boasts incredibly rich details: a purple-and-white diamond-checkered cropped bodice, a crisp black bow at the neckline, and a radiant blue heart emblem placed centrally across the chest. What captivated me most was the architecture of the skirt and streamers—the multi-tiered white skirt embroidered with silver lines, paired with sheer blue-violet chiffon streamers draping at the back and holographic laser star ornaments dangling from the hemline, produced mesmerizing specular sheen under the lights. To faithfully recreate the original design's silhouette, I spent considerable time adjusting the proportions between the corset waistband and the shoulders during fitting.

For the hairstyle, a pastel blue bob with gradient pink streaks toward the ends required sculpted twin ear-like hair buns at the crown. A generous amount of hairspray was essential to keep the bangs and side curves buoyant throughout the day, preventing them from wilting inside the stuffy studio. In makeup, I wore pale blue contact lenses and deepened eye contours so my facial features remained sharp and three-dimensional even beneath intense studio strobes.

The location that day was a pure white seamless cyclorama. The advantage of White studio photography is pristine illumination, allowing the purple-and-white palette of the garment to pop with complete clarity, though it equally means cast shadows can appear harsh. Lighting therefore demanded surgical delicacy with even fill light to separate the subject organically from the white background without appearing superimposed. The photographer, @Longxiang Nightfall, offered invaluable advice on angles—given the voluminous skirt, standing statically would feel stiff, requiring somatic movement to fan out the fabric.

This gave rise to several signature poses: standing on one leg with hands clasped showcased the inner shorts and thigh band while maintaining core balance; lifting both sides of the skirt hem directly highlighted the garment's length and leg lines, where the black ruffled bloomers and diamond-mesh thigh garters acted as striking visual accents. The black chunky-heeled ankle boots featuring purple outsole trims, paired with crisscross white strapped gaiters, demanded constant micro-adjustments of balance during movement to stay upright.

The playful salute or wave gesture looks effortless, yet controlling arm angles was necessary to prevent the detached white flared sleeves from slipping down while sustaining buoyant micro-expressions. White studio shoots are physically draining because one must continually pivot across the white riser, hunting for optimal angles that showcase the leg garters and boots while keeping the garments crisp and wrinkle-free.

The entire shoot was immensely fulfilling—from wig sculpturing and costume calibration to calculating muscular engagement for each stance, every step demanded patience. While my muscles ached afterward, seeing the pristine color clarity and the dynamic sweep of the fanning skirt in the final frames proved that every ounce of effort that day was well rewarded.
