For Yoisaki Kanade's wig trimming, the focus was on the thickness of the bangs and the stray hairs at the edges to ensure a light and airy feel in front of the lens. This time, ice-blue contact lenses were paired to restore the character's pupil color, and cool-toned eyeshadow was chosen to deepen the eye contours. In terms of clothing, the blue-and-white alternating uniform jacket features gold piping and buttons, while the dark blue bowtie and ruby at the collar are the core embellishments of the entire outfit. Because it leans toward a uniform style, special attention had to be paid during the shoot to smoothing out the hem of the clothes to avoid unnecessary wrinkles ruining the overall look.
When recreating the entire outfit, texture is key. The white part of the jacket was made from thick fabric, which can support the shoulder silhouette. Instead of using simple appliques, the gold piping was chosen with a piped edging technique, making the light reflection more natural under the lens. For the red gemstone on the bowtie, considering reflection issues, a material with multiple facets was specially chosen so that it can still exude a hint of gloss even in dim light. The accessory chains were also anti-oxidation treated to prevent discoloration after prolonged shooting.
The shooting location was chosen indoors, filled with retro elements. A huge beaded chandelier and white carved candlesticks provided an excellent sense of atmosphere, forming a visual contrast between the warm yellow light and the cool-toned outfit. During the shoot, an overhead camera angle was tried to frame the character and the gorgeous background props together. To ensure even facial lighting, shell-textured decorations on one side and the candlestick light source were also utilized for fill light.
Entering the studio shooting stage, lighting adjustments took up a large portion of the time. The main light source was soft light coming from the upper-diagonal, simulating that natural yet dramatic light and shadow. Since the scene was predominantly white overall, to prevent the character from blending into the background, an outline light was added to highlight the edges. While shooting these photos, I kept reciting the character's personality traits in my heart, trying to keep my movements restrained, with my hands resting gently at my sides, matched with the slightly longer bangs to block the line of sight slightly and add a bit of mystery. From makeup testing, studio shooting, to post-processing adjustments, every step required meticulous treatment. By slightly adjusting the head angle and gaze direction in front of the lens, I tried to capture that quiet gazing feeling of Yoisaki Kanade in Project Sekai. The lighting setup at the shooting location for this cosplay was fantastic, resulting in a very high photo output rate.
