This time I shot an Asahina Mafuyu cosplay in a casual school style, with the location chosen at a park where spring cherry blossoms were blooming. I originally wanted to look for her traits under a slightly cool lighting, but unexpectedly, the spring light and shadow softened the overall atmosphere a lot. For the purple wig part, I intentionally went for a casual, loose feel, trying to restore Mafuyu's temperament that lies somewhere between aloofness and an observer's perspective.
The outfit is a classic grey-and-white sailor uniform paired with a knit cardigan. This layered look is very practical in school-style cosplays and adapts well to the slightly chilly outdoor temperatures of early spring. Instead of deliberately chasing ultimate accuracy, I cared more about that sense of resonance with the character in a specific scenario. For this set of photos at the bus stop, a small plushie was placed nearby at the time, creating a sense of space for waiting or being alone. A few shots by the water borrowed the scenery of falling blossoms; when the wind blew, they captured a few drifting white petals. In framing the shots, I avoided messy distractions as much as possible, letting the tree branches and light become the frame of the image.
During the shoot, I was originally worried that the cloudy early spring weather would affect the photos, but the soft, diffused light actually fit perfectly with Mafuyu's non-glaring, cool feel. The breeze and light rain encountered during the shoot also became natural props, giving the overall experience more breathing room. What I wanted to express most during the shoot was that composed yet slightly distant feeling. As a member of 25-ji in Project Sekai, her character's core always carries a bit of quietness borrowed from winter, and when this quietness lands in spring scenery, it turns into a different kind of presence instead. This is also why the caption says that winter is spring in another sense. As a window to dialogue with an anime character, the final photos of this Cosplay photography session didn't need too much deliberate emotional instigation. Just standing there, the attire, wig, expressions, and setting could naturally tell Mafuyu's story. This is also my way of understanding the character and blending the ordinary with the extraordinary in photography.
