Standing before the blue-and-white vending machine, dappled sunlight fell across my shoulders. I adjusted the white ruffled hair accessory atop my head and the bow on the side, simulating a timid, slightly hesitant glance.
This time I chose to cosplay Kasumizawa Miyu from Blue Archive, whose full outfit design is instantly recognizable. The light blue collar trim on the Sailor suit outfit paired with a bright yellow necktie creates a vibrant color block clash that looks extraordinarily crisp in summer light. To faithfully recreate the character's visual impression, I specifically selected a deep dark black wig with delicately wispy bangs to naturally cover the forehead without feeling heavy. The round RABBIT armband detail on the sleeve was a custom cloth patch I ordered after searching multiple shops and hand-sewed on; putting on this outfit and feeling its tailored texture truly made character immersion effortless.
The location was chosen next to an outdoor drink vending machine—a familiar Japanese street setting ideal for showcasing a Casual cosplay feel. Holding a real canned Ramune soda provided a refreshing touch of chill through the aluminum, and despite the scorching heat, the photo colors turned out wonderfully crisp and clear. I'm quite happy with the composition in image one: tilting my head slightly with hands resting naturally near the collar, complemented by sunlight rim-lighting the edges of my hair, creating a wonderful ambient mood. For image two, I raised a finger toward the display shelf during the shoot, later adding spinning manga effect lines above my head in post-processing to supplement this semi-static pose with motion and playfulness.
For makeup, to suit her facial contour with subtle baby fat and youthful demeanor, I deliberately softened the color density of eyeshadow and blush, prioritizing clean base makeup and sleek eyeliner shapes to convey a pure, unpretentious feel. The reddish-orange color contacts were the essence of this look, instantly giving my gaze vivid expression upon wearing them. In terms of overall color scheme, the white, blue, and yellow combination proved exceptionally photogenic, preventing cluttered visual clutter and focusing center stage squarely on the character herself.
The shooting process was actually quite relaxed, requiring no overly complex movements or choreography, focusing instead on capturing that momentary shy, slightly bewildered expression. Zoning out before the vending machine or stealing a timid glance at the lens fit the character's intrinsic personality setup perfectly. Though the sunlight was blinding, using a reflector to softly fill the shadows balanced the light-and-dark transitions between hair and clothing nicely, filling the photos with the tranquil essence of a summer afternoon.
I feel that this kind of Casual cosplay shoot, rather than intentionally staging a dramatic highlight moment, is more like projecting an anime character onto a real-world street corner. When a light breeze stirs stray hair strands, that cross-dimensional realism often leaves a far more memorable impression than extravagant backdrops. I hope this photo set conveys this refreshing Summer street snap breeze alongside the character's unique, quiet demeanor.
