As soon as summer arrives, the issue of how to maintain the character's state without being too stuffy and hot is put on the agenda. This time, instead of doing a complex studio shoot, I chose the most casual daily perspective, attempting to do a Seed cosplay that can find its vibe right at home. Changing both the desk lamp and the fan into a soft atmosphere, the entire room becomes a shooting space that requires no elaborate backdrop.
First, let's look at this light blue wig, which is the soul of this look. The hair strands underwent multiple rounds of trimming and combing, featuring not only that stubborn cowlick on top of the head but also requiring moderately tight braids on the side to complete the wig styling. To improve breathability, I used a lightweight hairnet inside. When pairing it with head ornaments, I didn't have many ideas initially, but once these two gray-and-white mixed hair clips were attached, the person's temperament instantly became vivid—gentle with a hint of stubbornness, without any sense of discord.
For makeup, I leaned toward subtraction; the base makeup is clean and translucent, only using concealer to fix some dullness. The eye makeup isn't heavy, emphasizing the curliness and definition of the eyelashes. Paired with light-colored contact lenses, the gaze naturally possesses that lazy and innocent feel. For the lips, I selected a visually warm orange-toned glossy lip glaze within the cool-toned wig, neutralizing the icy feel of the hair, making the cheeks look highly healthy and fitting the comfort after summer's intense heat subsides.
In terms of clothing, I chose an entire set of casual wear focusing on comfort as part of my at-home outfit styling. The inner layer is a white lace-trimmed camisole, paired outwardly with a loose pale yellow knit cardigan. This highly casual off-the-shoulder way of wearing not only weakens the rigid impression of outfits but also naturally exposes the collarbone and shoulder lines, creating the indispensable lazy atmosphere of an at-home vibe. The movement of fingers gently pinching a strand of hair is also the most unconscious response in daily life, and I feel this non-intentional state is conversely the best medium for transmitting the character's daily emotions.
On the technical level of shooting, indoor natural light is the most friendly light source. Instead of choosing harsh light, I let the light shine obliquely through the window, forming soft diffused reflections on the wall and my face. Under this lighting, the light blue wig won't display awkward highlight reflections, and the hair strands' texture and quality can be perfectly preserved. When taking selfies, fixing the phone on the desktop paired with time-lapse shooting eliminates complex handheld operations and makes the angles of the entire set of photos highly natural, free from any sense of distance.
As a cosplayer, the greatest joy is using these seemingly complex detailed designs to objectify a certain moment from the game world into real life. Although wearing a wig and full makeup/styling in the summer can indeed be a bit stuffy, fortunately, choosing the style of at-home outfit styling means that as long as the AC is turned up high, there aren't too many worries. Compared to heading out for location shoots under the blazing summer sun, this way of restoring the character in a comfortable little nest is truly cozy. Finally, I think the original intention of summer cosplay is to express love for the character; no matter whether the scene is a finely decorated studio or your own sofa, as long as you treat the makeup and hair details with your heart, you can transmit that unique temperament and sense of story.
