The Marin cosplay photoshoot taken during Halloween has been dragged until now to be sorted out and posted. The atmosphere on set during the early-stage shoot was exceptionally good, so even though it's a bit late, I still want to share this set of finished photos full of festive vibes.
With the addition of the Halloween atmosphere, this look presents Marin Kitagawa's playfulness and energy with another flavor. For makeup and styling, a platinum-to-pink gradient wig was chosen, paired with pointed elf ear props. For the painted part, small black bat-shaped patterns dot both sides of the cheeks, which, combined with the red-and-pink toned eye makeup, makes the entire face look highly vivid, possessing both the liveliness of Halloween and preserving the character's intrinsic temperament.
In terms of clothing, it's a customized black-and-orange color-schemed witch-style dress. The overall black undertone looks cool and dashing, while the bright color patchwork on the chest and the small bowtie at the collar add cute elements. The semi-transparent sequined mesh bubble sleeve design adds to the overall layering, which, combined with elbow-length black gloves, garter-designed fishnets, and black thick-soled short boots, makes the entire match easy to move in and highly photogenic. Especially the multi-layered ruffled hemline holds a beautiful dynamic aesthetic when spinning around or doing big movements.
The arrangement of the shooting scene was key to this output. The background was made into a vintage stone brick wall, with a simulated fireplace on the front side, inside of which the faux-flame light source was very warm. Scattered around were white candles, skeleton skulls, white flower decorations wrapped in pearls, and several plush pumpkin props. The cold blue atmospheric light in the photography environment and the warm orange light in the fireplace formed an intense intersection of cold and warm, pushing the magical night atmosphere on set to the absolute extreme. Simultaneously, it sketched out a beautiful rim light along the character's silhouette, giving the frame more of a cinematic feel for this Halloween photoshoot.
In controlling the poses and emotions, I experimented with some playful and casual postures this time. For instance, sitting on the floor holding the wide hat brim, hugging a Halloween pumpkin plushie for fun interactions, as well as lifting a pumpkin with one leg and pointing a finger toward the sky. Every movement tried its best to recreate Marin's confident, cheerful, yet slightly tsundere feel. Although it's a belated set of Halloween photos, the immersion and joyful emotions during the shoot can still be conveyed through these photos. The Halloween limited edition of Marin, paired with this meticulously designed layout, serves as a highly meaningful attempt at Anime-style photography.
