Shooting Hindenburg at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo was mainly to test the straight-out-of-camera performance of the Sony A7 IV under Jinbei lighting. The entire costume features a black-and-red palette, with the red hair and demon wings being especially striking. When capturing the standing pose in photo four, I deliberately adjusted the side-profile angle to fully showcase the silhouette and the lines of the Black stockings.
In terms of the lighting setup, the key light was a Jinbei HD250max paired with an 80cm octagonal softbox, delivering soft illumination for the face and upper body. For the rim and side-backlight, a bare-bulb Jinbei HD100 was used to accentuate the rim contours of the wings and hair, making the subject pop out from the noisy convention background. To highlight the textures of the legs and combat boots, a Jinbei Hi500pro was placed low, firing directly at the floor to illuminate the legs via floor reflection, rendering the semi-sheer texture of the Black stockings far more naturally.
With heavy crowds at the convention hall, finding a completely clean background was nearly impossible, so camera settings relied heavily on cutting ambient light to make the subject stand out. Using the Sony A7 IV, we leaned directly on its color science, which accurately reproduced the rich reds and perfectly complemented the character's temperament. Throughout the shoot, poses were continually refined—such as the crouch in photo two or the standing side-profile in photo four—to bring out the garment's tailoring and strap details clearly.
The prop wings and horns were quite heavy, making wearing them all day at the venue rather exhausting. Fortunately, the lighting was spot-on, producing clean straight-out-of-camera shots that required minimal post-processing adjustments. The knee straps, tall boots, and spiked accents rely heavily on dimensional depth, and the low-angle lighting caught the sharp edges of these accessories effectively. Overall, both costume details and lighting layers were beautifully captured. I'm thrilled to record this character at this summer convention; it was a truly smooth and successful shoot.
