Changing into this camisole-style performance outfit, I tried trimming the reddish-pink short hair into a layered gradient look for the first time. Paired with purple contacts, it restores the charm of this red-themed character. For the makeup, I deliberately toned down the thickness of the eyeshadow colors, focusing instead on the purple pupils and eyeliner contouring, making the demeanor look both stage-confident and carrying a touch of the character's typical cool aloofness.
The design details of the costume are plentiful. The pearl chains and metal pendants on the chest provide a certain reflective effect under indoor light sources. Around the neck, it's paired with that giant white frangipani flower choker, and the garland decoration is specially embellished with small white flowers and blue butterfly elements. This high-saturation color scheme of red, purple, and pink combined with white tulle can easily look cluttered during shoots. Therefore, special attention was paid to managing light and dark transitions to prevent skin tone distortion caused by environmental reflections.
The Red hair styling of the wig was actually a difficult point. The hair volume is quite large, so the bangs needed to be trimmed to create a unique texture, while the hair ends on both sides needed to fit naturally. To achieve that lightweight layered feel, I used hair products on the ends for a smooth finish combined with minor trimming, giving the ends a natural micro-curl. The strands on the forehead were also intentionally adjusted in direction to avoid looking overly fluffy or blocking the eyes when wearing the garland.
The material of this outfit blends multiple fabrics. The shiny surface on the chest, white lace borders, and golden piping offer a noticeable brightening effect under the light. The waist features a spliced and sheer mesh design, placing certain requirements on the flatness of the waist and abdomen. To keep the pearl chain hanging in a natural arc across the chest, I adjusted the position of the clasps before shooting. The semi-transparent white tulle on the arms is a part that really stands out; it requires wrist and arm movements to control its floating path. Combined with the shoulder lines, letting it fall naturally at times or slightly opening it to both sides at others are key to presenting the garment's lightness.
Instead of choosing an outdoor location or a professional studio shoot, this session was recorded as a Casual cosplay snap in an ordinary home environment. The fridge magnets behind me, the TV screen playing scenery footage, and the friend holding up a phone to shoot nearby all added to the daily, lifelike atmosphere. This relaxed feeling without deliberate posing can sometimes capture a character's vivid side much better than standing in front of a backdrop board at a crowded Anime convention.
I tried two different body languages in the two photos. Picture one features one hand on the hip, the other gently tapping the chin with fingertips, the head tilted slightly to one side, and a sharp glint in the eyes, creating a playful and confident stage vibe. Picture two features arms folded in front, with a slightly softened demeanor, making the shoulder lines appear flatter visually and enhancing the presence of the choker and head garland. During the shoot, I repeatedly confirmed the angles with my friend catching the snapshots behind, trying to keep the lens level to minimize facial distortion. Direct light on the face and clothes can be quite harsh, so I added a diffusion layer in front of the light source to make the transitions along the edges look more natural.
For post-processing, I preferred to retain the true texture of the skin and costume fabric without over-smoothing. I focused on adjusting the contrast between the skin tone and the background's brightness, making the color of the red hair more pure while avoiding white edge issues caused by background extraction. I also tried shooting directly with a phone when producing these photos; the slight perspective brought by the wide-angle front lens beautifully showcases the waistline and camisole structure of this outfit.
Every time I cosplay a member of μ's, I feel a special sense of belonging. The group's setting itself is filled with youth and energy, and this red-haired character has always had her own unique personality tag within the team. Not just the music or stage movements, but that trait of being meticulous yet delicate on the inside is a very interesting challenge for me. Through this re-styling and makeup session, I have gained new insights into my own understanding and expression.
