Today's Hoshimi Miyabi Office Lady uniform cosplay sort of fulfills my imagination of her modern workplace setting in Zenless Zone Zero. I've previously cosplayed her combat look, but changing into a white shirt, black tight hip skirt, and black stockings, wearing semi-rimless glasses and an employee ID badge, was a completely new experience.
To recreate that workplace atmosphere, I specially prepared props like a coffee cup and an office desk. During the shoot, making the fit of the white shirt look good really tests your posture and state. Given how form-fitting the outfit is, even slightly wider movements could cause wrinkles, so I had to maintain my posture throughout the whole session. Moreover, fixing the wig cap and wig took quite a bit of time; paired with the animal ears, I had to ensure the ears didn't look awkward from any angle and that the hair was combed smoothly, which are basic requirements for cosplay.
Some people asked me why I chose the theme of overtime. Well, think about it, who actually likes working overtime? But when Hoshimi Miyabi wears this outfit, holding a folder in front of her office desk, that cold yet somewhat detached workplace vibe is truly full of tension. During the shoot, I kept reminding myself to keep my gaze cold and my movements crisp rather than too soft—especially the poses of adjusting glasses and holding the coffee, which required repeated angle adjustments to capture the most natural frame.
Speaking of the details of this costume, unbuttoning two buttons of the white shirt breaks the rigidity a bit, but it shouldn't look too casual; this balance needs to be carefully managed. The black tight hip skirt paired with black stockings visually elongates proportions, but it also means higher demands on sitting and standing postures—slack off even a little, and you won't look like a workplace elite. In the full-body composition of photo two, I deliberately added a crossed-leg standing pose paired with high heels to make the overall lines cleaner. In photo one, holding the coffee cup and turning slightly sideways was meant to express that slightly relaxed state during a work break.
The retro computer terminal, sticky notes, keyboard, and that blue coffee cup on the prop desk were actually all carefully selected just to make the whole scene feel more realistic. When shooting this work, I kept pondering how to convey a sense of story solely through body language and props without relying on complex special effects. Workplace Office Lady style cosplay easily falls into cliché, repetitive poses, so I added some small clever touches to the pose design—such as the gesture of holding the coffee cup and the slightly lifted chin in photo one, aiming to express a sense of composure amidst busyness. Photo two emphasizes a sense of control, holding a clipboard and pen in a posture resembling organizing materials or reporting work. The addition of animal ears provides a contrasting cute point, adding a touch of the character's playfulness to the otherwise serious workplace attire. Every shoot is a deepening of understanding toward the character; from costume coordination and prop placement to facial expression management, every link is closely connected.
We also put a lot of thought into the lighting of these photos. A pure white background combined with soft light ensures that both the wrinkles in the clothes and the texture of the black stockings can be clearly presented. In post-processing, we tried to keep the tones clean and transparent without adding too many filters, aiming simply to highlight the character's inherent temperament. I hope this different style of Hoshimi Miyabi cosplay lets everyone see more possibilities in her and feel the dedication we put into the costume, makeup, props, and shooting details.
