I’ve been preparing this Ichiban Kuji Shimoe Koharu outfit since I got the official art last month. The black translucent polka dot mesh top, combined with a black collar with white trim and a high-waisted pleated skirt, creates a look that is visually rich in layers while retaining the character's unique academic yet dark aesthetic.

Since we shot this during the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo at an outdoor location, I chose the night streets as the background. Nighttime lighting is more complex than imagined, but the photographer, @橘子皮, used a large aperture to turn the streetlights, decorative lanterns, and even the taillights of passing cars into dreamy, colorful bokeh. These spots serve as the perfect bokeh background, and combined with cool-toned flash, they highlight the black-dominant outfit, avoiding the dullness of a pure black background.

For the wig, I chose light pink twin-tails, topped with the character's iconic ring and heart-shaped headpiece, accented by black feather clips on both sides. Regarding the stockings, after trying several patterns, I decided on polka dots because the rhythm of the dots complements the black and white feathered wings on the waist perfectly. Under the flash, the polka dot black stockings exhibit a delicate texture, fitting the outfit's details while making the leg lines visually appealing.

While shooting, I communicated several positions and poses with the photographer—half-squatting, leaning to the side, and kneeling were all captured. By changing hand movements, such as gently touching the chin or showcasing props, the perspective mesh on the clothes and the texture of the stockings are fully presented from multiple angles. The challenge of this look wasn't the costume replica, but grasping the character's expression. I chose a more restrained and quiet gaze, which, paired with the night street scene, adds a sense of serene storytelling belonging to the photo itself.

The pink-covered booklet in my hand played a great balancing role in the composition, breaking up the all-black color blocks. Carrying officially licensed merchandise for an Ichiban Kuji shoot was a special experience. The texture of the Ichiban Kuji costume varies greatly under different light, and night fill-light actually maximized the 'glimpse' effect. Occasional pedestrians on the street filled this area outside the expo with a real, urban atmosphere. I think this is the charm of outdoor photography: without a deliberately built, flashy studio, just the intersection of natural light and flash, plus the character's elements, can piece together a work that makes me satisfied.
