[Saigyouji Yuyuko cosplay] Illusions of the Past in Touhou Project's Night Cherry Blossom Garden

This shoot was set in a cherry blossom garden in full bloom at night, perfectly matching the theme of Saigyouji Yuyuko under night cherry blossoms in Touhou Project. Regarding the preparation for this look, the main challenge was recreating that blend of elegance and ethereal aura. The light blue off-the-shoulder dress, styled with layered ruffles and white lace reminiscent of Lolita fashion, showed a wonderful sheen under the night camera flash. Much effort also went into picking the pearl strand and sapphire accessories at the neckline to match the character's graceful setting.

The wig used was short, light pink curly hair. The curve on camera was crucial—it needed to be styled fluffy and natural. The red circular ornament on the cap was a key detail for accurate design, contrasting nicely with the light blue cap. For makeup, we emphasized the eye contours and paired them with light red/pink contact lenses, giving the character a slightly detached, doll-like vibe, which is part of this character's unique charm.

I used props aligned with the character's traits during filming. Besides a handheld cherry blossom bouquet and a small purple-and-white flower umbrella, I also held a purple folding fan with a pattern matching the overall color tone of the frame. The location was set under high-saturation cherry trees at night. The photographer used a strong direct flash for fill light, highlighting the character against the dark floral background and creating a dreamy, surreal atmosphere where reality and illusion intertwine.

Since the character concept carries a sense of free-spirited casualness, I tried several different poses when interacting with props. The seated pose felt like the best overall state: wearing Mary Janes in a White thigh-highs outfit, with the skirt spread across the wooden terrace, the folding fan half-opened casually, paired with a folded purple umbrella on one side. The composition achieved depth without feeling cluttered. When shooting against such expansive cherry blossom backdrops, besides outfit coordination, Night cherry blossom photography requires color grading that keeps the cherry blossoms soft without being oversweet, ensuring the cool undertone of the blue-and-white dress isn't washed out.

This set took nearly two hours of tweaking and coordination, mainly to balance light sources for night shooting. Outdoor night shooting relies heavily on lamp placement and angles to illuminate the face without losing the layered depth of background petals. Recreating the game character through detailed attire, props, and careful makeup styling came together for this special attempt, hoping to present Saigyouji Yuyuko's serene mood of admiring flowers in the night from Touhou Project.
