Putting on this cat-eared outfit made of black patent leather and lace patchwork, and stepping into the shooting area enclosed by dark green backdrops, Janus's unique temperament—somewhere between innocent and adorable—instantly popped into my head. This photoshoot didn't intentionally plan a complex storyline; instead, it aimed to intuitively convey that casual daily life vibe and the character's charming personality through the language of the lens.
For the costume, a highly glossy material was chosen. Under the overhead light, it forms prominent reflective lines on the shoulders and skirt hem, adding a touch of cool edge to a dress that originally leaned toward a sweet cat-girl style. Fortunately, the collar and the edges of the detachable sleeves are patched with soft white lace, neutralizing the cold stiffness of the fabric. Paired with a white twin-tail hairstyle and a pair of black cat ears with pink accents on top, the foundation of 'cuteness' is firmly established. In terms of makeup, to match the texture of the white hair, the base makeup was kept translucent, while the focus was placed on the eyes. Combined with cool-toned contact lenses, it gives the gaze that focused look characteristic of a cat.
Another highlight of this look lies in the coordination of the lower half. Sheer black tights serve as the foundation, providing a certain visual elongation, while the focal point is the leather buckle garter strap around the thigh. This highly stylistic accessory works beautifully to break the monotony of the large area of black. The black platform Mary Jane heels on my feet are full of retro vibes, featuring a metal buckle. Combined with a round toe and an elevated platform design, it visually lengthens my stature significantly. It is also exceptionally suited for this kind of scene; even when sitting on the plush cushion, the shoe style prevents the legs from looking cramped.
During the shoot, the photographer suggested trying out more natural and relaxed postures. For instance, the movement of grabbing the twin-tails with both hands and gently pulling them outward actually tests arm muscle control quite a bit, since one needs to maintain a smile and keep the gaze following the lens at the exact moment of pulling. There is also a shot of sitting on the carpet and adjusting the garter strap; that casually revealed laziness is something that's hard to replicate when intentionally forcing a pose. The combination of the plush cushion and the wooden floor, paired with the dark green curtains in the background, makes the overall color palette of the environment very gentle, highlighting the black-and-white costume without making the frame too dark or dull.
From swinging my legs on the chair to kneeling on the floor and extending my arms outward as if trying to catch something, every pose required considering the drape of the skirt under gravity and the highlight spots where the light hits the leather outfit. Working with the photographer's shutter captures and the gaffer's precise control over the reflections of those glossy materials, the sense of motion in the final images turned out very natural. The fluttering of the leather skirt hem and the relaxed expression while holding the hair tips are excellent expressive details for Anime-style photography.
The entire shooting process was not tedious at all. Although repeatedly adjusting the curves of the wig and bangs was a bit troublesome, seeing the look gradually take shape through the viewfinder made all the effort feel completely worth it. The character's innate cute attributes beautifully echoed through this attire and specific expressions. Being able to put on this gear and present the character's energetic side within the set gave a great sense of accomplishment.
