The original intention behind this creation was to unearth a visual presentation with more of a magazine blockbuster texture within the classic image of Yuzuriha Inori from Guilty Crown. Having photographed Inori-chan many times before, the goldfish dress has always been a choice I really wanted to challenge but harbored some concerns about, because its visual elements are so tightly linked to the character's destiny. This time, with the help of a stylist, the classic elements of the white battle suit and the petal skirt were disassembled and fused with a sense of fashion.
We deliberately removed complex backgrounds, placing the focus on character emotions and the narrative within the costume details. For example, in the composition of holding a miniature model, I hoped to express the microscopic manifestation of the weight of life through a shift in perspective; the virtual interaction of the goldfish and red silk ribbons echoes the overlap of apocalypse and life in the plot. In terms of color tone, we chose a confrontation between cold hues and crimson red, matching the cropped perspective of magazine-style photography to capture the shattered feeling beyond the frame.
The graffiti patterns on the arms, the hair-flow texture of the wig, and the transparent material of the gauze drapes were all tailored as much as possible to match the core of the work after defining the style. Although it's not the first time playing this role, every time I put on a new look, fresh creative inspiration always sparks. This time, I hoped more to express the character's calmness and fortitude when facing the fading of life, rather than just stopping at reproducing the outward appearance.
During the photography process, we also experimented with many unconventional poses and gaze guidance, such as slightly turning the face to feel the light and shadow, or gently lifting a hand to touch the void. These subtle moments are often better at conveying that helpless yet firm sense of loneliness in the plot. For a work filled with tragic aesthetics like Guilty Crown, using a crisp, translucent imagery texture to carry a heavy core is in itself a highly expressive way with deep tension.
A lot of material was shot for this set. Moving forward, I will progressively share the unique emotional atmosphere of each look according to different costume series. Through different materials and lighting, I hope to pass on these feelings of fragility and power belonging to the apocalypse in a more cohesive way to those who see these photos. This is also the balance I have always pursued in my Cosplay photoshoot creations.
