On D3 of the 2025 Firefly ACG Expo (Firefly Anime and Games Carnival), I finally completed this Nun look photoshoot at the Dafo booth. The character setting for this appearance is a highly impactful Nun look paired with a giant circular saw prop.
Regarding this costume, the main body is a black long dress, and the sleeves utilize transparent lace with vine and acanthus textures covering the entire arm, creating a material contrast with the black waist-cinching dress body. Paired with a white veil featuring lace trimming at the edges, the overall color tone is a classic black-and-white combination. The makeup pursues a clean, fair, and translucent look, matching my original straight long black hair and blunt bangs, maintaining the nun's solemnity and a bit of mystery. However, the addition of the giant chainsaw prop immediately broke the peaceful atmosphere, creating a powerful contrast.
The prop this time was extremely heavy, around five or six jin or even heavier, heavily testing wrist and arm strength when holding it. During the shoot, to express the dynamic sense of swinging and lifting, we repeated it many times. Especially the moment of lifting the prop to make the saw blade present a gear-like shape required high concentration to maintain balance. The ink-splatter effect on the prop surface is quite well done; the metallic base color paired with the mottled paint traces has a strong visual performance in the frame. Thanks to my partner NightDiva for the precise capture during this convention photography session; it was not easy to find a suitable glass window background and angle in the massive crowd flow of the public area. There were indeed some onlookers during the shoot, but the original intent of a coser is to materialize these elements into reality.
I used to shoot many lightweight outfits, but handling heavy weapons this time was truly a test of physical strength. However, it is precisely this heavy texture that allows a flat look to display layers before the lens. The original design intent of pairing this nun costume with a giant chainsaw prop was to break traditional stereotypes, letting a seemingly delicate face coexist with a highly destructive prop. During post-production editing, we specifically maintained the transparency of the light without excessive skin smoothing, preserving the skin's texture. The highlights hit the large prop and black dress, allowing the fabric texture and the prop's metallic spray paint effect to be well displayed.
The overall presented atmosphere has both the darkness of gothic style and the brightness and enthusiasm unique to conventions. I hope to pass on the tension of the character setting in this Cosplay sharing. In the future, I will also attempt more looks with difficult prop manipulation; experience and physical strength are built up progressively. The smooth completion of this shoot would not be possible without our team's cooperation. As long as the character setting is brilliant enough, an environment like an ACG expo can highly inspire creative inspiration. Thanks to the Firefly organizers for providing the venue, and thanks to the enthusiastic audience that day, letting me feel the vitality of this circle. Looking forward to continuing to use brand-new looks to try more challenging prop compositions next time. Although today's shoot is over, every run-in with styles and props leaves a deep impression.
